Keep blowin turbos WTF
okay my buddy bought a set up for his ls it had a turbonetic some thin that lasted three days (shaft got tons of play). So then he gets a brand new garrett t4 of a f350 diesel that lasted about two weeks (broken shaft). The last one was a spw?? rebuilt with garrett internals t3/t4 almost a good month the and the shaft broke. I am wonderin what the hell he is doin wrong gets perfectly good almost new turbos and they keep braking. Any suggestions would be nice. I dunno what the ---- to tell him.

is he running an oil line into them? is he feeding too much/too little oil?

I was thinkin to much oil it's a straight feed from the pressure sender with a 1/8" braided hose. Don't think about the bov it's a egay knock off 50mm. Oil return is a 5/8" hose I believe ran perfect no kincks nothin. I'm tryin to help him out cause I never hear from him till somethin brakes and he wants me to fix it.

A weak BOV won't hurt a turbo.
No BOV and moderate boost pressure can damage the compressor and stress the bearings. Too little oil can result in shaft play. Poor tuning can cause EGTs that eat bearings alive. The only way you'll begin to tell is by taking those turbos apart and figure out why they failed. -someone who went through a bunch of turbos- |
