Default Just rebuilt Turbo still having problems

here we go... i have T3 .42/.48 on my 99 si and about 2 months ago its started smoking(blue smoke), so i figured the turbo is 14 years old and needs a rebuild, well the turbo had ZERO in and out play and almost Zero side to side play, well the car was starting to lag a little bit its like when i press the gas the car felt like it was resisting the turbo like i was pressing the gas and it felt like there was resistance with the motor...not the pedal itself anyways when i got into boost it runs perfect it just smoked blue smoke alot, so i got a rebuild kit and opend the turbo and i swear everything looks cool except the seal on the compressor side, so we replaced everything anyways, oh yeah the the center section of the turbo was smoking before rebuild, so after the rebuild and install on my car i find out that i was supposed to balance it...naturally i didnt and the car smokes more than it did before and now there even more resistance untill im in boost then its cool, what the ---- is up with it, do i need new turbo?....sorry this was so long.

i woulda tried a oil restrictor first. fact is the oil pressure is to high for the turbo and its blowing oil right through the seals.

u prolly spent the money on a rebuild for nothing

check out the needle valve FAQ in the FAQ post in here.. good luck.

what about the problem im having with the added lag, i know everything is tight but its like when i used to spool up the needle would stop only breifly at 0 , now it stays there for a few second and then spools up slowly, could this have anything to do with the turbo rebuild i just did....does it have to "break in" or something?

hrm, whats your drain on your turbo look like.. also pull that and see if you got oil flow. also check oil pressure.

also no the turbo should be fine is you didnt balance it, itll last like 5yrs instead of 10..

when i first had the turbo on the oil drain went straight back instead of down, when we did the rebuild we just cleaned everything and rotated it so it points straight down now and its still doing it, maybe its just the oil that was sitting in my muffler and its just burning off, but it still doesnt explain the slow spool time. and the turbo is already 14 years old.

Use mobil1 15w-50, if the oil still leaks by, then your turbo is all sorts of fucked up. Did the trick for me and other people too!
