just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
got a garrett/airesearch .70 trim .63/.84 on my b18b.... ::) no wonder it lags like hell in first... hit full boost which is 7-8 psi at 6500 in 1st and redline at 7k... lol but in other gears full boost is at 4500-5000 here is a pic comparing that and a 14b lol
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5253/10006993vo.jpg both are the same distance, the 14b is just sitting higher... |
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
---- stupid ass imageshack didn't resize the pic, i'll redo it right now...

fixed

Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
that's a big turbo.
Doin my own b18b project... glad to hear I won't be waiting that long for boost :P Planning on keeping as it is or changing because it's so huge? |
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
plan on keeping it as is or gonna sell the whole car, whichever comes first
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
You're saying it's 0.63 a/r and 70 trim?? Are you sure of that?
It looks to me as a nice t04B S trim (48 trim) compressor with A/R 0.60 . You say you have a 0.84 a/r turbine... is it a T4 "O" trim split scroll turbine??? WOW! THat's HUGE!! You're lucky it ever spools at all!!!! you have picture of the turbine? or the whole install? |
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
very sexy ;D
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
I have a turbonetics t3/t4 what are the ar raitos and the cold side, cuz it looks big.
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
if its a twin scroll exhaust housing, make a plate that blocks one side off...it'll spool then.
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol
blaast yes its a 6 bolt "O" (not a v band) dp look and are you sure about the specs? its stamp .70 on the outside of the compressor housing. and i remember it having .63(i know for sure in the .6?'s) inside the compresser outlet....
i read this somewhere this is how i thought the trim and specs are read... stamp on outside housing equal trim : .70 stamp on inside of compressor housing oulet : .63 ish(around there i think) stamp on exhaust side of the housing : .84 and yes it is a twin scroll turbo also.... i did not block one of the ports... http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1557/10006965tw.jpg http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9306/10007001uz.jpg http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2203/10007031af.jpg don't mind the oil issue... its fixed http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/8966/10006977zr.jpg http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/824/10006250io.jpg old setup http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6792/10007156cz.jpg new setup some of you guys say your surprised about it actually spooling? now i'm curious what motor this turbo would be perfect for and maximum hp... |

Jeffy had a 1.00 housing on his zc seemed to spool pretty nicely |
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
would it really make that much of a difference with that block off plate? if so what can i make it out of... ?
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
steel plate and yes you think a 1.00 housing would spool on a 1.6 no
look at the blue thunder install video car rips |

Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
No boost in first gear and full boost by 4500 in all the others? That's some good traction control right there. I'd say it's perfect.
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
It should spool faster since the same amount of exhaust is going into the turbo, just at a higher velocity correct?
Edit: i'm suprised nobody said anything about the fmu :P |

Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
yes i do have an fmu... but debating if i'm gonna stick with the car still or not... have 450's setting in my trunk... or my back seat somewhere lol. if i do plan to keep it i was gonna have a shop dyno tune it for me. so yea...

Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
Haha...that's the same size turbo that I had...got rid of it cause it was way too big for me. Same deal too...didn't really spool until 5800 then started dropping some. Mine I know for a fact though that it was the "o" trim (cause it had it tagged on the housing) and man was that thing huge :l
|
Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
The number printed inside the housings is not the trim. It's the A/R.
Yeah that's deinitely a 0.60 a/r T04B compressor. The trim is not written anywhere but it looked like a S or T5/6 trim to me, which is good for 300-350 HP. Yes, that twin scroll 0.84 a/r turbine is huge. I could not make one spool correctly on a maxima V6 so imagine on your car... Blocking one side of the inlet flange sounds like a plan. That's some big time HMT ---- however!! I have a O trim 0.48 a/r T4 turbine housing in stock if you want. That would make more sense. |

Re: just realized how big my turbo is... lol **new pics**
sorrey about my stupid noob question..
i reely confused because i new in this business so my question is..: you have external waste gate, do you have boost line or vaccum line in this waste gate ???? and where it connecting if not to the turbo ????? ( i saw in your pics that the line goes to the motor)(i know that in internal westgate has boost line coonected to the compressor hose) |

You know you're absolutly right. My old compressor housing caused mad full boost spinning, but then your .60 swap I did to mine changed it all. RIGHT as I'm about to shift it loses so it's perfect. At the track though I didn't hammer on it and looked silly. :P Thought it was a jokel, but in reality (as long as the launch is a launch not a burn out) it does act as traction control. So the plate on one side would be like making the .84 closer to a .63 exhaust? Less volume to fill thus increased spool rate. How much faster? EDIT: I had full boost before around 3700 in 3rd and now its about 4500 so I'm sure my 1st gear is similar to yours as my latter gears seem to share similar spool rates. (.42/.63 to a .60 compressor swap on a Y8.) JP |
