Just need a tune! 56k die!

Figured id post some pictures of the setup ive been putting together. Stock d16y7 in a 97 civic dx vsm hb, 48/60 t3, old school fmic, dsm 1g bov, 450cc, safc2, vortech btm, and tried to meet my weight goal of under 1900lbs. Ive just been taking my time, using my girlfriends car in the snow instead of mine. Should be done by spring 08 goal of 180-190whp in a 1900-1800lb car. :6

Don't talk if you never tryed it. I pvc piping before for almost six months, held just find at 12psi >:D.

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

the only problem with PVC is the toxic fumes it releases when it gets to hot try to use the black abs piping. There are other Capri guys running 19 pounds through PVC FMIC setups just fine

Smith-02 12-19-2007 08:00 PM

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

toxic fumes? everything gives off toxic fumes when heated, only your engine eats these ones

Birdley42008 12-19-2007 08:24 PM

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

Im only using the pvc for a charge pipe basically from the bov at behind the headlight to the throttle body. Im more worried about the rubber joints smoking and giving off more fumes than the pvc. Why would using pvc create more of a chance for a boost leak than normal piping.?

I used a pvc elbow on my BOV recirculation, it melted after a while. took me a while long time to figure it out, i kept clamping down on all my pipes when my idle started to digress untill one day it was so bent out of shape the coupler popped off and the bend was unrecognizable.

So here I am...not speaking out of my ass.

looks like a start only thing i would do is get ride of that intake manifold you can find a y8 for cheap and it will help that motor A TON!!

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

I would ditch the rubber home deopt couplers, I tried them on my first setup too, but they melt and expand really quickly, also if you wrap your resistors in electral tape or heat shrink them it gives a much cleaner look or you could wire in a resistor box. Also on the weight reduction I'm not trying to be a dick but are you overweight? if so you can save a few extra pounds on your car by loosing weight and you'll feel better too.

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

hahah, I love the hate. Again I am running 10psi for a total goal of 180whp. I am using one 2 foot section of pvc. The previous owner used rubber elbows with no evidence of expanding or dis satisfaction. I appreciate all the info but I have seen to many setups with rubber elbows and pvc piping to change mine to complete aluminum. Also my setup is a stock d16y7 i dont want a y8 im, anways I would go z6 im not y8. Also skinnye what was your the motor you used them on, what psi, and what hp. I almost guarantee one of those exceed the rubber elbows capacity to sustain a solid state. ie too much pressure and heat. As sea level has a lot to do with this.
I live very close to sea level on the east coast.

Please check your English and re write the sentence correctly.

http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/7...0233dk5fr0.jpg Why does this person use rubber elbows if they melt llike crazy? You used a pvc elbow, my guess is it got a hair line crack from expanding and progressed.

Also wrapping reistors in tape can make them explode due to the heat. Never heard of heat wrapping them.

Most of the replys are about changing things that are already done, ie im, elbows, piping, resistors. Im not going to change something thats already done and will work fine for what I want. As confucious sae would say theres more than one way to skin a cat. :6

This is HMT I love my y7 im, my resistors, my pvc, and my rubber elbows, I will not change it until my own expierence proves me wrong.

It was words of advice from personal experience. I realize you did it on the cheap just to get it done. However, just because you own a Honda doesn't change the Continuous Service Temperature of PVC.

Birdley42008 12-20-2007 10:53 AM

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

Actually I didnt do it on the cheap, I did what I felt was appropriate for my goals. If you want to get into continuous service temperature of pvc, my dad is a chemical engineer with a masters in chemistry, he helped the 1990 nobel prize winner with his nmr, I will ask him to take pieces of the pvc and the rubber and find the actual continuous service temperature. :1 I just dont understand how you one person with your 53 post expierence can change the facts that more than one person has used pvc and rubber elbows on their turbo setups with no problems.

Hey man, you can do all you want with PVC, and learn from mistakes, but what does the difference in make (mazda/honda) have to do with anything? Your dad would be so proud, as I give you the KNOBel prize for 2007 :)

dude, you don't get it. I, myself, have used pcv and home depot rubber in my setup before. My experience was unsuccessful. the end. My post count and the make/model of my car does not factor into the equation. So while you have a valid argument, it does not guarantee the truth of its conclusion, since a valid argument may have false logic/proof. In other words, lighten up nuggah.

WTF?

Ill admit Brainesack has a valid arguement, but you, your just retarded and just made your first retarded post to prove it.... Aquafina bottle? huh. I have a castrol syntec quart for a catch can. If thats what you meant.

Polyvynilchloride is an expectable means of charge pipe on HMT. The carcinogenic chlorine based molecules that are released when energy is introduced into the compound are of no concern to us..

I was running around 10psi on an f22a1 power level i'm unsure, I had another buddy run one on his det swapped nx2000 the thing tore pretty quickly but the boost was kind of on the high side, if you want to go for cheap elbows that will hold up get some radiator hose. I've seen silcone couplers on ebay for around the same price as the rubber ones at the hardware store, also if you do decide to change the pvc pipe which I don't know why you would unless if it melts or breaks( I've never un it before) don't waste money on aluminum just get some cheapo mild steel.

Yes because HMT post count really speaks volumes about a persons automotive experience.

Re: Few pictures before its done. 56k die!

i used ABS on my first setup, and homeboy depot couplers without a prob. except when my homemade boost controller fucked up, and blew the whole pipe from ic out to im off, and part of it landed on my exhaust housing and melted, but not all the way through. i pulled over and put it all back together and it worked great.
