Junkyard intercooler pipes
Only like, 40 more posts more and I'll be able to get the porno forum. God damn!
Here are some junkyard IC pipes that worked for me, and some that did not. The good: Duh, use some from cars that came turbo'd/intercooled to begin with. Never failed me up to 25psi and beyond. Here is an example from a turbo volvo http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516075 aluminum pipe and million ply silicone flex tubing. Sweet secks. Also good, this ---- off of Ford's, some of it is even 3" http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516138 This is off a probe, I think. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516139 This is off a truck. Bronco's and F150's have bigger pipes, Rangers and whatever that is have smaller ones. All of this type of multi-layer rubber and cord tube I've tested up to 25psi too and it's held. One lame part, the spring and staple in those, just cut the hose off at the staple so you don't get leaks and rip the spring inside it of it out. The bad: http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516391 http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516392 That molded rubber bullshit will split on you. It's thick, but it is gayer than that uncle that touched you in the church bathroom. My friend is running it in his with no problems @ 15psi, but it's just waiting for the right time to split and leave him fucked on the side of the road. When you can find hard pipes, silicone, and the Ford stuff, why would you bother? Not tested: I'm seeing more and more plastic stuff in the 'yards. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516527 what the ---- is that? I wouldn't put it before the IC, and with all the other stuff out there, I wouldn't ---- with it at all. You can also chop up exhaust pipes, but it's hard to find it in the right size normally. Walked out of the junkyard with this http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...g?t=1239516757 for $10. I did it, you can too. Also, give your hard pipes a lip to hold on to. Even though these things might balloon up, they'll hang on with a lip on the hard pipe. |
not bad for ten bucks

It doesn't seem like many people here are making a ton of boost anyway, stock boost for most of the cars those came off of is 10-13psi and they run that way for hundreds of thousands of miles until the engines die and the IC pipes live on. I've been running them on my own cars at 15-18psi for the last 4 years with no problems and I've seen as high as 25psi. The only one that ever broke were the molded ones. I forgot to mention about flow and size, don't ------- worry about it. Stock DSM pipes are just barely over 2" ID and people have made more than 300awhp with the stock IC. I imagine you could make more with 2" pipes if you had a better IC. 2.5" IC piping can handle 700hp and beyond with a decent IC. If it ever stops ------- raining I'll plumb up my IC and take pics of my car. Maybe I'll get a pic of a pegged boost gauge with my boost leak tester ;D |
Yea those west coast guys seem to have all the deals in the yards??

looks good
if only there was a junk yard around me that bought turbo cars lol |
