eh, i learned and im over it.

now i need to change turbos. so any suggestions for a decent turbo for my engine.

its a d16a6 bored to 76mm w/vitara pistons.

i have a 60 trim t3, its from a tbird i think. it starts making boost a little below 3000rpm and hits like 5-6 psi at around 3500rpm.

i have 600 dollars to spare from taxes, but cheaper is better.

ideas?

and no chink ----.

Evo 7/8/9 turbo. Can usually get one with low miles for around 600$.
Good solid factory turbo with excellent bang for buck ;)

yeah, i was thinking about a holset considering the good luck that people have had with them.

im wondering, what do i need to search for?

im asking for opinions about my particular setup. its non-vtec, so i dont have the same powerband as the d16z6/y8.

so you search, and if you find a d16a6 w/ a holset on it in a thread then link it here. but i didnt find one on this site.

I say try out one of those chinese ball bearing GT28's. Otherwise *sighs* just get a Holset like everyother person these days. ::)

no ------- way, wont touch a ball bearing turbo, and definetly not a chinese one.

it will probally be a holset.

or maybe a 60-1 w/.48 exhaust housing. seen it on craigs site and just like how misproportioned the housings are.

or a 60 trim t3, but a new one this time. i really liked this turbo.

I wonder if that guy from BLAAST just slaps rebuild kits onto your turbos and calls it a day, or goes through the dozens of procceses actually required to rebuild a turbo to make it last. I make turbos for a living and can tell you that its not easy. Turbos are extremely picky of tolerances and every piece affects the other. In other words, get your turbo rebuilt from a repuable source, and if you buy a ching ching turbo, god help you. Some may last, but others wont, simply because China does not have strict quality control standards, they simply rely on volume to fuel their buisness. However, I can tell you firsthand that China has some of the best castings and machining quality I have seen, but their tolerances must be out of whack. i am sure their $1/hour labourers dont know how to/or intend to asjudt their machines to produce the correct tolerances. If you are mechanically inclined and have the now how, buy a SSAC turbo by all means, disassemble it to the last bit when you recieve it, and check all the specs. If you have a manual lathe in your shop, adjust the dimensions and you have a kickass turbo for dirt cheap.

he's using a y7 head on a z6 block if I remember right, using a holset h1c. Those you can get for a lot cheaper, but they are older and a little less efficient than the hx/hy's. I'm pretty sure the hy's are supposed to be slightly more efficient than the hx's, and should come with smaller turbine sides for quicker spool, that is if I'm remembering my holset lore properly
