joy of joys, i think i blew another one

woo-hoo, this is it im done. looks like im blowing my tax refund buying a new turbo. i will certainly do alot more research before i have another turbo rebuilt. |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one

|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
this one lasted about 4 months.
it still boosts fine so im going to pull it apart on saturday and see what is going on. so ------- tired of this happening. anybody no a good place to buy new turbos from? |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
Did it come from Blaast? I got a new one from him, a 1000 miles later the damn thing smokes like a bitch. 900 bucks down the drain. It really pisses me off
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
hahah, welcome to the club.
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
Well yeah. My experience with this was a little over a year ago. Still pissed about it though, and still wanting to retaliate :7

Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
this is the second one from blaast, the first fell apart. literally.
it was upgraded to with a bunch of seals and ----. then he sent me another center section, not upgraded. im not dealing with him anymore. im over it. not worth the frustration/shipping cost. |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
BLAAST sounds like one dodgy ---- , I was in the market for a turbo a few weeks ago glad I didn't buy from him!!
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
what a ------ douch bag!!!!
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
eh, i learned and im over it.
now i need to change turbos. so any suggestions for a decent turbo for my engine. its a d16a6 bored to 76mm w/vitara pistons. i have a 60 trim t3, its from a tbird i think. it starts making boost a little below 3000rpm and hits like 5-6 psi at around 3500rpm. i have 600 dollars to spare from taxes, but cheaper is better. ideas? and no chink ----. |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
Evo 7/8/9 turbo. Can usually get one with low miles for around 600$.
Good solid factory turbo with excellent bang for buck ;) |

Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
I say try out one of those chinese ball bearing GT28's. Otherwise *sighs* just get a Holset like everyother person these days. ::)
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
no ------- way, wont touch a ball bearing turbo, and definetly not a chinese one.
it will probally be a holset. or maybe a 60-1 w/.48 exhaust housing. seen it on craigs site and just like how misproportioned the housings are. or a 60 trim t3, but a new one this time. i really liked this turbo. |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
thats gay get something bigger. Ching chang to4e?
|
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
I wonder if that guy from BLAAST just slaps rebuild kits onto your turbos and calls it a day, or goes through the dozens of procceses actually required to rebuild a turbo to make it last. I make turbos for a living and can tell you that its not easy. Turbos are extremely picky of tolerances and every piece affects the other. In other words, get your turbo rebuilt from a repuable source, and if you buy a ching ching turbo, god help you. Some may last, but others wont, simply because China does not have strict quality control standards, they simply rely on volume to fuel their buisness. However, I can tell you firsthand that China has some of the best castings and machining quality I have seen, but their tolerances must be out of whack. i am sure their $1/hour labourers dont know how to/or intend to asjudt their machines to produce the correct tolerances. If you are mechanically inclined and have the now how, buy a SSAC turbo by all means, disassemble it to the last bit when you recieve it, and check all the specs. If you have a manual lathe in your shop, adjust the dimensions and you have a kickass turbo for dirt cheap.

he's using a y7 head on a z6 block if I remember right, using a holset h1c. Those you can get for a lot cheaper, but they are older and a little less efficient than the hx/hy's. I'm pretty sure the hy's are supposed to be slightly more efficient than the hx's, and should come with smaller turbine sides for quicker spool, that is if I'm remembering my holset lore properly |
Re: joy of joys, i think i blew another one
14b ftw get a use one from crx22111 here on hmt if the ---- fail he will take care of you tell him mark sent you

|

like an exchange for a new one? i was gonna suggest oil restrictor, but looks like you got that covered. why not run a 16g? they are not too hard to find and reliable. dsm boards have them everywhere in their classifieds |
