Default Johnnyracecar FMIC

I need some help to decide which of his three designs I should buy for my D16Z6 turbo. Which would/should be the best choice? Some of my mods are: mild ported head, Zex 59300 cam and T3 turbo A/R 60/48 (aka super 60)from a Ford Merkur XR4TI. Please share your experience or opinion.

I apologize if this issue was addressed before. I am just too lazy to search the forum.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I was about to start this thread off with a comment, but man.. come on. At least lie to us and say "yeah I've searched all around the forum and can't find anything".. can't expect people to hand feed you info when you don't want to get it yourself. There is a recent thread within the past day that discusses a similar turbo and some people with d16's discussed what they had and what was best.

Please put forth a little bit more effort next time

I've taken the time to go back at least 7 days and there is no thread that discusses Johnnyracecar intercooler preferences. The only discussions I found are as follows:

1. People saying CCA is better than Tyrus
2. Is NX intercooler better than water to air
3. Someone asked if he should choose a T3 or T3/T4

There is no discussion about choosing one of the three sizes of Tyruss intercoolers and which works better. Did I missed it? I doubt it.

32x5 is a good size, most people run a cca, or tyrus fmic about that size, it's easy to mount without a alot, if any cutting, and it's big enough to fill the opening in the bumper.

Projekteg, thank you very much. This is the response I wanted. I was going to buy the new big intercooler (30X7.75X2.75) but I had second thoughts. I wasn't sure if it would be too large. Also, I am trying to limit turbo lag.

Basic rule, you can never go too large with an intercooler. I've never seen a downside to it. Get the biggest one you can afford and fit in your car.

Also turbo lag is completely overrated. The benefits of having a good intercooler outweighs turbolag. Turbolag is a form of traction control...

i agree with you whitey, but a 32x5 fmic will provide more than enough cooling for your everday turbo set on a d series

Also if you worried about lag that much look at a different style intercooler. Longer ones will have more lag and pressure drop than ones that are taller. So if you get one that's 8 or 10 inches tall and shorter, it will be more efficient

It never hurts to leave room for upgrading.
