jeep wrangler turbo sizing (i know this is a wierd request)

i have a 99 wrangler sahara i need a turbo in it that is the absolute perfect size it needs to start spooling at 2000 and be at max around 4500 or 5000. My plan is to put a remote setup and set everything so i only get 3 pounds of boost which is plety safe for any engine ion the planet, then turn everything up as i throw forged internals in and all that other stuff ill be needing until im at 15 to 20 pounds of boost. I know this is going to be a a pain but all i need from yall folks that know your turbo sizes is what size turbo should i be looking for? p.s. this is NOT a mud rig i like bashing rocks thats y i cant have that much turbo lag if im trying to put my tire on an exact point and it starts spooling that could really mess my day up. also every one is telling me a super charger would be a better bet but i know if a turbo is that perfect match to my engine ill be way better off with it that a blower.

id go with a t70. should spool around 2500rpm. i used this same turbo on an s10 4.3 turbo build and thats the rpm it spooled at.

also i need to find a way to get oil to it and i was thinking of putting as remote rez back with it with soime type of small electric pump to cerculate the oil threw the inlet and outlet. is this possible and if so what do i need to mkae this happen. also one ore thing is a turbo flutter bad for anything some one told me it isnt the best for the turbo but they sound beautiful.

aah forgot you said remote mount setup. definitely dont use a t70 for a remote mount setup. gt30, gt35, super 60. these turbos should be good for your app. you will need to purchase a scavenge pump. oil feed will come from the engine. you can tap into your oil pressure switch. i havent found a oil supply/scavenge pump combo yet and i cant imagine how expensive they would be. a good quality scavenge pump is going to run you ~ $250.00

turbo flutter as you say is actually called compressor surge. compressor surge damages compressor wheel blades because the air pressure has no place to go when you close the throttle. the air pulses back through the boost pipes and into the compressor blades while the compressor blades are still producing boost. that is where the noise comes from. a bov saves your turbo, sounds much cooler than compressor surge and keeps the turbo spooled up so you dont have as much lag if you open the throttle again.

I run a t3/t4 set up on my wrangler. Makes as much as 15lbs of boost if I want it to. Here is a couple pictures, let me know if you need any help.

@stevej: do you have the specs of your t3/t4? when does it start making boost and when does it hit 7 lbs?

stevej 11-27-2010 08:14 AM

I use a .48 turbine housing. Its starts building boost about 1800-1900rpm. I have 7lbs around 2300-2400rpm.

interesting. i want to do something similar, but have 7 lbs all in at 2000rmp. fortunately there seems to be a .36 housing. which trim is your turbine? stage III? do you know what compressor you have?. i am looking at the TOE-57.
