installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

i was having trouble getting my ls-t to idle at any decently rich a/f ratio, so in the troubleshooting process, i got new inline resistors( to run my low impedance 550's) and installed them. well, long story short, my car wont start. my injectors open when i initially turn the key, car will start for less than 1 second then die, and i cant get it going again. i cranked it for a min and my plugs are dry (and i believe they should have assloads of gas on them from cranking 550s at wot).. management is uberdata, my numerical fuel values are dead on, and ive used different maps/chips and burners to no avail. anyone have ideas?

did you resize your fuel maps for the larger injectors?

yes

Did you put the resistors on the correct wire? Were they 10 watt 10 ohm?

shmaptoe 06-29-2005 11:22 AM

Re: installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

resistors are 10w 10 ohm. i wired them in correctly, as i did one injector at a time as to not mix them up, and i also double checked my service manual to make sure everything matches up and it does.

i thought it mmight have been my ecu, but i just tried a new one, and it did the same thing

are you sur eyour injectors need resistors? was it runnign before you put them in?

what year is your car and what motor?

car needs resistors. it has run in the past. motor is 97 b18b, car is a 97 hx, injectors are tuner toys low impedance 550's. i have also converted to obd1 injector plugs to accomodate the injectors.

That's Hilarious man, not to make fun of you but that's the EXACT problem I had. I have a 97 Dx w Ls/Vtec and 390cc DSM's and the car would crank and crank and crank and No fuel. It ended up being that just 1 of my resistors were bad! They were sittin in my local radio shack for 2yrs after all....?? And apparently if just 1 injector's is bad, then NONE of them work..... I just unwired the one injector clip(which By the Way I switched to OBD1 clips as too) and just running of 3 cylinders the car fired right up! Best of wishes man.... https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=42899.0

Do his injectors even need resistors though? They aren't DSM.

Yes because they are low impedence. Just use an ohm meter and check them.

may be you forgot to click APPLY after ajdusting the injector size??

haha no ---- man. good to know im not alone. i actually installed them over 2 days due to lack of time. the first day i only did cyl #1 and the car drove out of my garage, and back into the garage the next day. tomorrow im gonna take the resistors back out, quick throw in some obd1 stock injectors (using stock ls map) just to see how that works, then try tossing in my old resistors again or perhaps go with a resistor box.

Re: installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

fixed!

i went to a local pick and pull and got a resistor box out of an ef si, wired it up and the car started. it was still idleing like ----, but i dont have my wideband hooked up so i dont know how lean it was. i went back into uberdata and added like no joke 40 % fuel back to the idle portion of the map, now its smooth idle at like 21-22 vacuum. (im sure its too rich actually).

so last question for right now, my fuel values at idle are right around 40 with 550's, or .5- .6 duty cycle. when converting injector sizes off a basemap, it gives me fuel values of around 25. any idea why i have so much extra fuel in it to idle properly? 25-30 gets a decent idle of around 14-15:1 on my friends gsr with the same injectors

Re: installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

weird, I got mine fixed too and now the car won't even idle without pedal assistance ??? It idle's like crap and I pulled out 45% correction so it's now at -45% fuel and yet when I pulled the plugs I can see fuel puddled on top of the pistons, so I dont know ???

damn.my problem is that the car runs perfect until I shut the car off.then I have to wait like 30 - 40 minutes before I can turn the bitch back on.Im not sure what the problem is .Im running 450 eclipse injectors on a b18b with uber and inline resistors.this has happened ever since I turboed the car so I just dont turn the bitch off if its a short stop ;D

You should leave it run a little before you turn it off. That's the purpose of a turbo timer.

large injectors and uberdata can be kinda tempermental with hot starts. ive heard some people have a lil difficulty with it.

where is the best place to get some obd1 clips? i need some too for my 450s i bought off of --------------------------- i will be tryin a junkyard probably on tuesday morning. but where else could you get em?

Dude just cut of a little bit of the plastic like everyone else here does. It's free and works PERFECTLY ;)

that exact same ---- would happen to my buddy..

try replacing the main relay thingy. that solved his problem

not gonna work, the clips are just too large. if you look inside the clips where there are the positive and negative slots for the injectors, there is a blue piece. the piece is too large to fit in the injectors. i thought it was the plastic pieces on the outside keeping the dlip from sliding on, but when i tried again, i looked closer, and it was just the size of the part inside the clip itself.

You can't cut that part out either? I'm a big fan of cutting stuff. Cut dat shizzzzzzz even if its impossible. Just cut it :P

^ ill try to take some pics to show you

well lets just use this one:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...91_88_full.jpg

see the stock injector on the right? the opening is much bigger.

here is a pic, i tried but flash mighta killed it:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...91_90_full.jpg

i wouldnt be comfortable cuttin that.

it should cost much to get some odb1 connectors. i will just go to the junkyard on tuesday with one of the injectors and check out some CRX's that i've seen there, and ill just see if they fit, then ill cut em off real quick and splice them and solder them onto mine, simple as that. longest part is drivin to and from the junkyard.

Re: installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

haha so i was messin with the connectors and turns out that blue piece pops right out. got them to fit, but they arent on very good, i will still go to junkyard and try to find some OBD1, and pocket em, but if not it should be fine how it is.

i used to be a fan of the inline resistors, but my car runs noticeably better with a resistor box, if anyone is having trouble i suggest going to the box first and troubleshooting from there.

a junkyard should have the clips, also check the classifieds.

They run exactly the same. If you were having problems with the inline resistors then either there was a problem with your wiring or the resistors themselves.

shmaptoe 07-07-2005 09:57 AM

Re: installed inline resistors, now my car wont start!!!grrr

yea i was having problems with the resistors themselves. but getting 2 bad batches in a row was at best remotely frustrating and annoying
