Install Pics of my Ls/Vtec Crx

Lots of pics..

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/lsvtec/fmic.jpg

First off, I was using beaus Starion/Conquest intercooler in my Ls/Vtec turbo crx. So I needed to get my own setup.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/lsvtec/ic.jpg

First off I have to thank Tyrus for this sexy piece, we have used his intercoolers before, but we were a bit sure how well this intercooler was going to fit in a 4g.

Core Size: 30in (wide) x 5 1/4in (tall) x 2in (deep)
End Tanks: 2.25 (wide) x 5 3/8in (tall) x 3in (deep)
Piping: 2.5 OD x 1.25 thick / 2.75in Long

On all intercooler installs, you need to start with test fits, It took a few trys to get this thing sitting nice and flush, and aligned perfectly with the bumper. (especially on this car, since it has been wrecked badly in the front end)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/compare.jpg

Give you an idea what the 2 intercoolers look side by side

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...c/compare2.jpg
You can see that this intercooler has 2.5 inlets, opposed to the starions 2.0in pipes.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/lsvtec/ic/hack.jpg
I didnt want to take a bunch of pics of the hacking, because their was alot, basically we had to cut alot of ---- off the front end, including parts of the core support to bring it up high enough to fit right. We used a sawz all, 5in cutoff wheel and a air hacksaw.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/rhmount.jpg

As you can see I had to bend the tabs down a little bit so I could get it to mount to the core support. (rh mount)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/lhmount.jpg

This is the LH mount, just 2 10mm bolts holding the IC in place.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/.../ic/fitted.jpg

Then finally got it mounted, Next step I didnt want to show everyone, because My front bumper is really gay, and I just hacked the living ---- out of it ;) Basically need to cut alot of the plastic off the backside of the front bumper so it fits nice. I kinda cut more than I really needed to.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...c/mandrels.jpg

A few mandrel bends 2.5 from JC Whitney that we used.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/lhupper.jpg

This is the upper ic pipe coming off the compressor housing, it goes from 2in imediatly to 2.5in piping, I did have to remove the Washer Bottle/Pump assembly for these pipes to clear.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/lhlower.jpg

This is the left hand lower section of the IC piping, we used 1 180 and a 90 for this side. The couplers are from Napa, just 2.5 black silicone hose, works perfect!

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/rhlower.jpg

This is the right hand lower side, Very similar to the other side, except I ran out of couplers, so I had to use the sexy yellow piece from a old intake we had.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/...ic/rhupper.jpg

And yes, the hacked up upper IC pipe, this piece has been around along time in a few of my cars, it has been modified many times for different setups, as you can see their is about 40 different welds, hahah,

Mounted to the IC pipe, is my Tial Blow off Valve.

All done

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/lsvtec/ic/race1.jpg

It looks very nice..

thanks again Tyrus & thanks to Beau for the sexy tig welds..

Jeff Frank

You have anything to monitor your intake temps with, see what the raw numbers are for the cooling difference?

Re:Intercooler Install Pics of my Ls/Vtec Crx

Jeff, did you notice any lag or difference between Tyrus's IC and other smaller IC's not as long? Tyrus said on his website people with smaller turbos might notice more lag. I am planning on running a small turbo and 5-7 psi, but if I get hondata I will proly run 8-11 psi. I am guessing it shouldn't be enough of a difference to really matter, but I thought I would ask anyways.

Re:Intercooler Install Pics of my Ls/Vtec Crx

Nope, I actually had an improvement.. we upgraded the charge pipes at the same time so maybe that had something to do with it. That starion intercooler that beau has kinda blows ass.
