I'm boosted

Well i'm kind of new around here still, and today i finally boosted my car. It took me and my friend 2 wrenches to the face, 4 busted knuckles, 2 beers, 2 days, and 14 hours, but we did it. It came out nice and i might have pics tomorrow. My only question is i have a tial wastegate that's set at .4 bar, and i was under the impression that .4 bar is roughly 5.8 psi, but i couldn't boost over 4.8 psi, so i'm assuming i caluclated wrong. Little help? i hate bar readings.

Re: I'm boosted

check for leaks in your charge pipes. also check your vac lines. you should be hold more boost

Re: I'm boosted

yeah maybe i have a leak in one of my vac lines because my charge pipes should be on there good. But .4 bar is supposed to be 5.8 psi correct? I just thought it was kind of strange that it stopped boosting at the exact same pressure each time

Re: I'm boosted

where are you getting your vac source? if you're getting it before the turbo, you will see some pressure drop. .4 bar is 5.8 psi

Re: I'm boosted

yeah it depends on where you have your wastegate vacuum line hooked up.

Re: I'm boosted

there's a bung comming right off the compressor and i used a t-fitting to hook up the wastegate and the BOV to it.

That is the issue. It's fine for your BOV, but for your waste gate I would move it. It's good if you want to run that PSI, but you're pressure is dropping throught he intercooler. If you hook your wastegate up to a line right off the intake manifold, you'll fore sure see a bit more boost.

Re: I'm boosted

If you nab a cheapass short ram intake from ebay and use it as your upper charge pipe, you can tap into the PCV outlet.

wow... i'm impressed it only took 2 beers for a turbo install. Isn't a half-rack the minimum requirement?

that doesn't sound right, the BOV will not get vacuum until the throttle plate opens under low throttle. The BOV needs to be hooked up downstream of the throttle body, somewhere on the intake.

If you have an intercooler then it will be a little lower than what the wastegate will be opening at, it sounds like youre about right (if you have an intercooler)..

This is due to the fact that colder air is more dense, so when it cools down in the IC, the pressure drops a little bit.

You're probably making more power with 4.X of cold air than 5.x of hot air anyways.

If you're not running an IC, then do as everyone else said, check for leaks.

Re: I'm boosted

so should i just block off that bung comming off the compressor and hook up the vac lines for the BOV and wastegate off the intake manifold? I was under the impression that shorter lines were better. And yes i am running an IC.

Re: I'm boosted

The BOV should definately go to manifold vacuum (after the throttle blade(s)).

Re: I'm boosted

correctme if im wrong,
if you connect some lines to the compressorhouse vacuum(including the WG), your boost wil be less? like if the wg opens@ 8ps now its opening @ 7?

Wow you guys are awesome. That solved the problem and my wastegated had rattled lose because my friend forgot to put washers on it >:( Now for the rest of today's story....

Once fixed the boosting problem, the 2 exhaust leaks, and partially fixed the oil leak, and also wrapped the downpipe in heat wrap.

Once we did all that.... HOLY ----

So after i drove it a bit, i let chris drive it. We're crusing on the highway, and i'm like, i wonder how this would stand up against your old maxima. No like, 4 seconds later a modified maxima pulls up. I almost ---- my pants. Mind you we had a half tank of gas, me, chris, and my cousin chad; Naturally we did a 3rd gear roll on.

He only had us by a half car length at like 105, i was extremely impressed.

Then i let chad drive. He's an okay driver but decided to miss 4th gear and powershift into 2nd, which, almost grenaded my engine. I almost died, but it wound up to 9K, and is fine. I'm still hyperventillating. But yes i let it cool down a lot and drove it for a while to make sure it's okay.

And here's some pics...

Attachment 37772 yes, no photoshop here. Thankfully honda makes one durable engine

Attachment 37773 Yeah, don't mind the windshield washer fluid container, that had to be moved so i could pipe the IC piping through the bumper, rather than under it. And my ghetto ass grounding system

Attachment 37774 The goods

Quick questions:

What are you running for fuel management? Just curious.... if my friend hit 9000 on my engine id probably slug him in the head lol.

Where did you pick up the heat wrap? I need to find some for my install.

Re: I'm boosted

i'm running tuner toyz 450cc injectors with a VAFC "hack". I must say i was kind of disappointed with the injectors because they were supposed to be plug and play, and the wiring clips didn't fit, and i had to rewire every single one.

I got the heat wrap from advance autoparts, it was like 45 bucks for 2"x 50ft. I need to wrap my dump tube too because it's starting to melt my JDM headlights :-\ Other than that i still have some small issues to work out, but so far, so good.
