Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Ok i cant get my ---- to not over heat at all!! WTF!! Just crusin around town it wants to overheat like crazy and if i race i absolutly have to keep the heater on HI just to not overheat. What could i do to maybe improve it? I have a 1 inch core stock replacement radiator about a month old. Just replaced my thrermostat with a 170degree one, im running redline water wetter in it, and one of those 12 inch hi power slim fans always on while the car is running. WHY THE ---- DOES IT OVER HEAT STILL! The temp out here in cali right now its over 100 degrees everyday but i dont understad why it would still do that if im just crusing. Or maybe just because the intercooler is blocking off most of it?? Any ideas?

Yeah I got a pretty good idea what it could be. If you have an accord, Stock accord radiators are shitty. they like to get a hairline crack right accross the front of them that you can't see becuase the core support blocks it from view. when the cars cool it won't leak at all but when it warms up pressure will push the crack open and vent small amounts of steam out the front of the radiator. you won't even be able to notice it. If I were a betting man I'd say thats it.
Could be your timing is just wicked crazy retarded to. |

make sure theres no air in the cooling system, fans not working properly, water pump could be going bad, leaks, bad radiator. could be any of those factors.
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Leak, thermostat stuck closed, fan relay fuse, wrong direction on fans, HG, a lot of stuff.

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
fans is setup to suck air threw the raidiator maybe i should set it up to push it threw and move the fan to the front? O and i doubt i have a blown head gasket im not smoking or burning water or anything. Radiator is brand new. Im just thinking it could be that its just too damn hott out here.
O and my timming being too retarted could cause it to overheat?? |

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
I`ve seen the same problem before, turns out the guy didn`t take out the plastic plug on the new radiator inlet LOL ;)

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
lift the back of your hood with washers or spacers and longer bolts.
get some sheet metal for the space between the top of the radiator and radiator support. this will help draw air from the front of the car and not from the top engine area. also, how's the engine oil temp? |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Hey guys the car is a turbo 92 civic coupe with an evo front mount. I said the same thing with the washers and spacing the back of the hood.
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
A bad rad. cap can also cause you to over heat...
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
im just gonna say the car doesnt like you
mine never overheated on my old setup with what i have.. i had a Z6 turbo pushing 10psi and could sit in traffic forever, and do 130mph pulls and not have it overheat... i also have no fans on the radiator either |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
mine done 20 psi without any problem as well.
the only time it over heated was when Stealthmode borrowed my resvior tank :X :P |

Im running 3layers of exhuast heap wrap , twin fans and my downpipe is touching the radiator.
Never had any problems , turn fan off on the highway works beautiful. |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Get the car hot as hell and see if the radiator is hot. If its not, your narrowing down your problems.
Does the temp. sky-rocket super quickly? Or just, boil over given a bit of abuse? |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
i vote one of three things...
1. fan spinning wrong direction (pushing air forward instead of pulling it in) 2. timing maps are FUCKED stupid retarded 3. headgasket |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
i vote water pump unless you havent noticed any leaks, then I vote #2 out of fooks list, since youve checked most everything else
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
has anyone tried removing the thermostat completely??
is this safe to do? |

is this safe to do? I had a blown HG and the car was not smoking, every thing was fine until i go to WOT. Then the water goes out thru the cap and the air gets in the cooling system. |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
HG, easy and done.
I replaced EVERYTHING before the HG, and only the HG fixed it. |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
take your cat off and check to see if it's clogged.
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Putting the washers in and raising the rear of the hood can sometimes have the opposite effect, drawing in air instead of allowing it to exit. I recommend taping small strips of ribbon on the edge and see if it's an area of low or high pressure. I don't think you want the cowl induction effect.

I have a customer running a built 2 liter gs-r on a big turbo and a single core half rad runs cool as it should. Also using a dinky AC condensor fan too. |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
shift sooner and drive real nice
lmfao |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
The cats not clogged just replaced it. What the signs of a blown head gasket? There is no sweet smell coming from the exhaust like when coolant usually burns and no smoke. There also nothing leaking in the engine bay. I think it's that big ass EVO intercooler blocking 95% of the radiator that's doing it.

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
HAve you just tried changing the thermostat? theyre only like $4 .Its worth a try.
|
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
My car ran great sometimes, hot others. No loosing coolant. If there is a small leak, the cylinder pressure and such pushes into your water jackets super heating it.
No Loss coolant, No Smoke. Replace the HG and call it a day. |
Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
Replaced the thermostat already didn't help. He'll have to check the headgasket when he get's back.

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
ok well the car hasent overheated since i spaced out the back of the hood. But im at the beach right now and its alot cooler here! I will find out if it still overheats like crazy when i get back in town. My car still seams to run perfect?? Could the head gasket still be toast and run perfect?? Thanks!

Re: Ideas to get car to run cooler??
I just got my turbo setup installed and running and noticed that my car runs really hot too. After about 15 minutes of even no boost driving the coolant temp is about 210 degrees and will creep up past that. I am running a stock CRX radiator w/ 2 10" slimline fans - one pushing and one pulling. It looks like there is some oil seeping between the head and the block
http://www.thezcr.com/gallery/data/500/block2.jpg The other crap in the area was because there was no freaking o-ring on the distributor. |
