IC Sprayer Idea...

IC Sprayer Idea...
Well here is a thought I had the other night. Why not use a vacuum source to supply the pressure needed to spray the IC? Use a one way check valve so that during vacuum it isn't sucked into the lines/manifold/source/etc. Then as you build boost the pressure is exerted on a top fitting and pushes the contents out of the bottom fitting. Of course you need a container, hoses, and what not, but this seems to be right. Think it's worth a shot? My only real concern is the one way check valve being able to hold back the container's contents.
Idea two seems simple enough but being able to use a CO2 tank with a valve and have your IC CO2 sprayed. Better yet, a solenoid could be added to control the function. Or you could run a line from the IC through the fire wall to a valve you open or heck just to the nipple of a AirDuster turned upside down. :P
The 2nd idea isn't really thought upon, but the 1st I gave a quick run through. Tell me what you guys think.

Re: IC Sprayer Idea...
you woudl need a ball valve in the system to shut it off when you're going on eth highway or it would run out of fluid in like 10 minutes, I would probably use rubbing alcahol in teh thing and that would cool teh IC faster
where do you live? cause if its somewhere thats cold in the spring and fall (we know winter would be a problem for that) if its liek 5 degrees celcius and you're doing 100kmh then the wind chill is enough to freeze that water onto your intercooler. that could be gay cause it block air flow but if its just a thin ice coating it could keep the IC temperatures down..... also if you live somewhere really hot than this would eb a gay idea as well because if teh water or alcahol in the resivoir is warm then you're just spraying warm water onto an even warmer intercooler
You could run a cool can type deal for cays at teh track to keep soem alcahol cool for spraying on the intercooler, that would work pretty hood.... but I think getting some old paintball gear and running a co2 cylinder spraying teh intercooler would work just as good
try it out and do soem R&D for us, tell us how this ---- works

Re: IC Sprayer Idea...
Old VW beetles had two awesome things:
1) No bulbs for turn singlas. Little arms that fell out of a holder
2) The windshield wahser sprayer was a tank that used air pressure from the spare tire to shoot the water.
Spraying gas works way better than liquid on an IC... But for what you're trying to do, I just don't see you getting & storing any useful amount of pressure.
I say spend $15-20 & make a water sprayer.

Re: IC Sprayer Idea...
I'm in PA and it gets cold, but I just wouldn't run any fluid during those months or just plug the line on drives. I honestly would use water around town and rubbing alcohol at the track probably.
The CO2 seems really JDM and my buddy said a tank to fill of CO2 is like $4 and honestly it could almost be hooked up like the full throttle set-up on a normal nitrous install.
The spare tire and arm signal is darn cool, but I don't want to use the tire for the pressure and if I'm running lines and valves; why not do CO2?
Thanks for the interest and ideas!!! Keep them coming!!!

Re: IC Sprayer Idea...
if you could ifind a cheep nitirous type solenoid, maybe from an industrial application then it woudl be simple, I am looking for a solenoid like this also for both a C02 sprayer and a custom home fab nitirous set up
I'll start looking, everyone els elook as well

You could use any solenoid and hook it up like nitrous that WOT (pedal on the floor) activates the solenoid. I'm sure if you had nitrous stuff it would be much simpler due to its similarity of use.
I'd probably will use just water. The CO2 is very doable, but I picked up some T's and some hose for nothing and I want to try the water IC sprayer. Anyone else think the check valve will work? If not all I can do is throw it in and hook a vacuum to it. I really think it will work though. Not sure.

Re: IC Sprayer Idea...
the key is the liquid to gas conversion, lots of energy is required to do that. That's why it feels cold when you spill everclear on your hand in the summer, even if its hot as hell and the liquor wasn't chilled.
Notice you get the same feeling from windshield washer fluid (it's got alot of methanol in it). It's about a buck a gallon too.
Can't use boost because you need more pressure than that. What would work well are some irrigation nozzels (wide spray pattern, you need it to mist so it can evaporate, get it too thick and it won't evaporate as quickly).
Maybe jack a old V-dub fuel pump from the junkyard, they are alcohol compatable (i think all bosche ones are anyway). Then use a old fuel rail with the nozels threaded into the injector holes. You might want to use the regulator (crush the top down for more pressure) and a return line on that too, or not. IDK what kinda pressure you'll end up with without the regulator.

Cool. I'm just trying to keep this simple you know and not to be mean, but I think it WILL work with boost. Ever blow a WG open? Nope. Takes a HECK of alot of pressure and then to restrict the flow to a small vacuum line AND a nozzle sprayer? Hey, I can hook up an air compressor tomorrow and try it, right? As for now, I'm concerned on the function not the contents. That is for later discussion. However, VERY good ideas. Oh yea, and for a cool JDM mister? I'm going to go bigtime if I can get this to spray right and sauter some copper tubing with little holes in it. Spray it black and call it a day.
Check Valve anyone?
