IC placement

1 Attachment(s)
I have a DSM side mount for my Focus build, and I think I have a place to mount it, but I want to make sure that it's going to get enough airflow. For now, I plan on mounting it as flush as possible with the bottom of the front bumper right before the driver's wheel well with the fins facing down. I wish I could get a pic, but the IC is back home.

This is where I would mount it.

And this is the position of the IC as you're looking from the bottom of the car. I test fitted it, and there's just enough space.

Let me know what you guys think. If it won't get enough airflow there, I'll just think of something else, or someone can give me some pointers.

or just save yourself the trouble and get a front mount

Looks good to me. You can always make a small upside down air scoop under the car to direct more air to it if necessary.

Yeah, but I got the side mount for free. Plus, I'm not looking to run much boost anyway.

Yeah, I was thinking about dryer hose going from some place in the front grill or something like that, but a scoop would be nice too. Thanks.

If you're worried about airflow, you could try a oil cooler/ trans cool fan and have if wired to suck air through it. Just an idea

Those things dont really do much will prolly do even less if its mounted like that, I would at least put a scoop underneath it or somthing

I don't know. Fans are usually only for moving air through a heat-exchanger when there isn't enough air flow - like sitting still.

I bet there's more airflow at 20mph from a scoop than any fan will pull through that tiny intercooler.

Re: IC placement

there is no way that is true. say a fan moves 1000 cfm its only moving it threw that small specific area where its needed. when a scoop is kinda putting it in the direction of the area of it ya know ?

if your statement were true radiators wouldnt have fans they would have scoops
