ic and piping question ??????
ok this might be a dumb question but......
is it pointless to run ic piping bigger than your end tanks are ???? my intercooler has 1.75 end tanks so is it stupid to run 2.5' piping if the air is only going to flow as fast as the 1.75' end tanks are going to let it ???? |
Re: ic and piping question ??????
run 2 inch or 2.25 max it is d series right?
|
Re: ic and piping question ??????
well i'm just saying why run anything bigger than 1.75 if thats all the end tanks are
|
Re: ic and piping question ??????
Rule of thumb is that going from bigger to smaller = restrictive/bad.
"Well, whats a solution?" might you ask. Get a intercooler with bigger end tanks. Problem solved. |

Re: ic and piping question ??????
I hate to transform an "informative" thread into a bunch of jibber jabber, but just because I posted my dyno sheet instantly makes me a 'liar". How is this so? Dibble can vouch that the dyno sheet is not "fake" as well as other people on other forums. I even stated(not in the first post) that even I don't believe the numbers were correct and that the dyno was most likely "off" that day, or just for a few runs or whatever. So please get your facts straight before you start assuming stuff.
What i get for trying to help i guess......... |
Re: ic and piping question ??????
The bigger piping flows with less restriction and more HP but their are some advantages of having smaller piping too. First off, the time in which it takes for the engine to see the boost created from the turbo. Next, it might inprove gas milage.
Now to adressing your question. The actual inlet to the IC is only for about 3 total inchs of the charge piping. So, I think the most restriction in the system is the core itself and not the inlet. Just use your sense and choose something that you think will give a good balance for what your looking for in your project. |
