Broken ringland would be my bet. Post pictures of the carnage. Might be advisable to not drive the car if you want to minimize damage from fragments.

hehe, yeah I've never swapped pistons before..
it's ez eh? don't you have to pull the crank out to get the pistons out??
This computer doesnt want to load my darned helms file(got it on cd).. gotta hunt down another online somewhere.

Anyhoo.. this doubly sucks, cuz someone stole my beater a few days prior, they stole the sparkplugs and battery out of it.
i tried replacing them it it still wouldnt start

edit: i wont drive the car anymore also

 

I just redid the compression test on the #3 cyl,
but this time I added oil

the results went up from 40psi to 120psi!

 

Even 120 is low. Your piston is fucked. Congratulations.

just this tells me most of the damage is to the rings or maybe ringlands

OK I got the head off..

here are the pics.
a few questions.
do you think that cylinder wall could be fixed just by honing it ?
or would a re-bore be absolutely neccessary?
Does the head look ok? Its got some pockmarks from detonation,
but no melting or scoring like the block..


In this pic(below), you see that other cylinder in the background, does that look like damage to its cylinder wall to you??

well the tip of the sparkplug did break off..

but it was so small, I'd think it woulda shot out the exhaust valves after one stroke?

I think all those pock marks are just from detonation..
