i have a 88 shelby csx non intercooled turbo. if i put an intercooler on it, should i get more HP'S? or loose power?

 

lol, we just raped a car at 9 psi with no intercooler and no tuning on a basemap, it's all good. got out and felt the charge pipes after a run, and they were still cold.

 

wel my(charge) pipes felt warm after driving it could it be outside temp? i.e. west is warmer than east?

 

If you're pressurizing air, IT HAS TO HEAT UP, no two ways about it - it's a basic law of thermodynamics : PV = nrT

BUT...How hot is too hot? If your compression is low enough, your timing isn't too retarded and you're not running the fuel too lean, you will probably be okay at 5psi.

Also, to answer your question about the charge pipes heating up, it could be just heatsoak from being close to the engine - there is no way to know without monitoring the temperature inside the charge pipes and comparing it with ambient temperature

At 10psi my upper charge pipes are pretty toasty (180-200*F ish) and even on my fmic, the one side is pretty warm, but the other side is stone cold.

 

ok i dont think my charge pipe is that warm, because i can keep my hand on the pipe when warm so i know that cant be close to 180*

 

for the $155 you can pick up a JRC off of ebay or wherever, isnt it worth the peace of mind?
