well i have my turbo on the car but no intercooler, i've been tryin to stay under 5psi. so i need to know can no intercooler ---- up my turbo and or motor :-\

I ran 11psi daily with no intercooler. Its all about tuning ;)

yeah i know i need to get one soon, i got some one on hmt modafyin one to fit im just waiting to for it, just wanted to make sure nothing to bad could happen because when i touch the charge pipe and it feels warm. i can wait till i get the ic people have said the turbo will "feel" better (with the ic) thanks guys

with no IC you'll have a higher intake air temperature..this mostlikly means detonation..the increased pressure in the cylinder makes for enough heat already..so you don't want hot ass air pooring in there too..get an IC

Well, for 5psi or lower I would'nt worry about it. In fact I would'nt be surprised if at that low of boost there is'nt much heat generated and you'd actully loose power by having a intercooler.

i agree too and dosent the turbo crysler lebaron sock come non-intercooled.i think you will be ok.

I am not argueing that it cant be done, but comparing a stock turbo charged car, to a car that isnt made to be turbo'd is 2 way different things.

i have a 88 shelby csx non intercooled turbo. if i put an intercooler on it, should i get more HP'S? or loose power?

lol, we just raped a car at 9 psi with no intercooler and no tuning on a basemap, it's all good. got out and felt the charge pipes after a run, and they were still cold.

If you're pressurizing air, IT HAS TO HEAT UP, no two ways about it - it's a basic law of thermodynamics : PV = nrT

BUT...How hot is too hot? If your compression is low enough, your timing isn't too retarded and you're not running the fuel too lean, you will probably be okay at 5psi.

Also, to answer your question about the charge pipes heating up, it could be just heatsoak from being close to the engine - there is no way to know without monitoring the temperature inside the charge pipes and comparing it with ambient temperature

At 10psi my upper charge pipes are pretty toasty (180-200*F ish) and even on my fmic, the one side is pretty warm, but the other side is stone cold.

ok i dont think my charge pipe is that warm, because i can keep my hand on the pipe when warm so i know that cant be close to 180*

You mean with retarded timing right? Banks sells twin turbo SBC crate motors that put out over 1000hp non-intercooled. And they claim about 600hp on pump gas, with a stock 350. And I've seen alot of non-intercooled Buicks that run in the 10s. It can be done, but it'll really help too keep your motor from takin a ---- on you.

i ran 15psi unintercooled. its all about tuning and not getting greedy with the timing. good thing leed spent the time tuning bbka's car ;). max timing i believe was at 19 degree's and i regapped my plugs to .028. no detonation. even in california weather :o
