vtec is for people who don't like to idle like a cam. The LS powerband shown above has almost 75 ftlbs of torque more than the B16 head, which makes for a better daily driven car. It's not like you can't port the LS head and throw some Crane turbo cams or some Crower 404's in there and make the powerband more like a GSR.

you have no idea what your talking about. yes it shifts the powerband up however considering i actually own those cams i will tell you the only area that loses power is under 3k. the midrange power increases are huge on those cams. yes you make more power higher up but you also gain a ton in the midrange. not true of a vtec head. you have a teeny primary cam and then nothing happens till vtec..
this dyno is from crowers website. notice the gains starting at 3k, yes they make the most gains near redline but its a smooth 5-10 ft/lbs from 3k up. keep in mind these cams will make power to at least 7500 on a basic build so the top end gains will be even higher
