that spool time is perfect in my opinion, mine is around that area also I love it, my car accelerates quick so spool that high dont really worries me, maybe the b16 head will help.

A garrett t3 60 trim or t3/t04 would be a much better choice. If using the 0.48 a-r turbine, it will spool up before 3000RPM.

I can trade a borg for such garrett t3 or t3-t4 for a small difference.

when you can rev to 8200 or so, 4000rpm spoolup aint too bad at all.

depends. I think the whole point of boosting a honda is to prevent having to wait for the high revs for the power to come on.

one of the reasons why honda's make big power is because of there high revs.. whats the point of building a honda and not take advantage of the high revs?

remember HP=TRQ*RPM/5252...

the only way to increase horsepower is to increase either torque or rpm.

boosted honda's make more torque+high revs= Big power..

thats why you always see honda's with 500whp and like 200 wtrq (a little over exaggerated i know)...the revs make up for it

That wont help his spool time. If anything it will hurt it. B18b1's have a higher VE at lower rpms. This causes the engine to want to injest more air and in return will have more exhaust so the turbo will spool faster. The only thing a vtec head will allow is a higher rev limiter thus allowing more top end. If he wants more midrange power, he should not swap to a vtec head but simply get a smaller turbine housing or smaller turbo all together. Raising your rev limiter is not always the best option. That means you need to change various drive train parts to allow your revs to increase faster to your car doesn't feel like a bitch at 3500rpm.

what?! you can honestly say that putting a b16 head on an ls block isnt going to help spool up the turbo quicker? I think you should test your ASSUMPTION before giving advise to someone who needs it.

anyway- b16 head will increase the compression alittle more than a gsr, which you obviously dont want. Plus, the gsr has a quench type combustion chamber that helps reduce engine damaging detonation. I say, go with a gsr head. Not only will you get to keep your turbo, you'll have massive vtak too

I will almost gaurentee that a b16 head wont increase spool time. VE is VE. Just because some head "flows" better doesn't mean much. Compare an LS vs b16/GSR at 4000rpm. Assume everything else is the same, the LS will produce more torque which means more air which means faster spool. You can say what you want, but VE is one of the few variables in figuring out engine flow. If that increases, air flow will and thus allow the turbo to spool faster. But lets just talk about flow because OMG head flow is just the best y0! Making a whopping 210wtq at 5500rpm and revving to 8000rpm is just the best thing EVER!

i don't know about you but imo its wayy cheaper and less time consuming to swap tubos than heads

I never said anything about increasing his spool time. I said that much lag aint no thing. Any sooner and he's just gonna burn tire all day long anyways.
