I had a whiskey influenced idea... Kind of a twin charge, thing.
I'm using a holset hx35. And right now on my vg30 I am pushing all the exhaust into the two scrolls through a 2.25" pipe.
But I was thinking a while ago, what if you fed 100% of the exhaust into the primary scroll with the 2.25" tube, then had a waste gate on that exhaust pipe which then fed into the secondary scroll to kind of speed up your turbo.
Now of course a waste gate is good for controlling your turbo, and would not flow worth a ----. And also, It would increase air velocity through that first scroll, but then I only have half-ish the surface area powering the turbine.
Twice the velocity, half the area so who knows if it would do anything good.
Like I said, I was drinking and thinking. Wanted to see what you guys thought. I would post ****...but I dont know. Is that still allowed, or will somebody's family write a letter.
So with that being said, I have nothing to fend of the flaming!

it'S a wonderful idea and I thought of the SAME thing.
yes, you are right, since a lot more exhaust gases than usual will flow through the wastegate, you need a HUGE one.
I would use a turbonetics race gate or a ching chong 60mm.
To actuate the wastegate (on a prelude), I was thinking to use the system that controls the secondary intake flute and the IAB'S.
on a VG30, I would look into the MSD rpm actuated switches to operate most any solenoid valve.

Thanks guys, I definitely will try it. This will happen a hell of a lot faster than my equal length manifolds. So, I'll get on it soon.
And yeah, thanks blaast. I was kind of wondering how to control the gate. The msd is a good idea.

i was talking about this wastegate: ebay 150129601772
i don'T think your secondaries should exceed 60mm anyways.
for actuating the solenoid that controls the wastegate, you may also look into a Hobbs boost switch. maybe that would be better... WG would open only when you are spooled up no mather what... better IMO than at a certain RPM where you may be out of spool in some circumstances.
here'S the costly hobbs switch: 170119011959
have fun and keep us posted.

I actually found that waste gate yesterday after you had posted. Or one similar from that guy. So I'm definitely going to try and grab that. Doesn't seem to be too many 60mm wgs on ebay. Well, definitely not like 38mm and normal sizes.
I was kind of wondering if the rpm switch would be the best idea. Like you said, if incase you're not actually boosting.
I do have a hobbs switch at home set for 3psi. And a massive air solenoid I could use that I intended to use for a co2 IC sprayer. This seems like a better use of the two.
So yeah, I'll get on this. I will take lots of pics.

Re: I had a whiskey influenced idea... Kind of a twin charge, thing.
Are you suggesting that you essentially block off one 'scroll' of the turbo until it reaches full boost? If so, its essentially like sequential turbos, except with just the turbine. It may help, but the problem is that you still have X amount of energy pushing into the turbine, just under more pressure. Its also only working on half of the inducer's height. Since you're running half of the exhaust through it, it will have to be something like a sodium-filled valve most likely, and would contribute to blocking flow.
The reason a twin-scroll works is that the pulse is kept in a small volume till it acts upon the turbine, and by due to turbine wheel speed and pressure in the other scroll/side, it doesn't revert to that 2nd scroll, and goes out the DP. I'd think the valve in the way and the crossover tube would contribute to enough blockage to negate any gains, or at least do nothing besides spool a completely oversized turbo up a couple dozen rpm faster w/o hurting topend.

You wouldnt wont it to open before say 5psi right?? just hook it up as a normal waste gate with a 5psi spring.
iv seen someone completly block off one side and it worked ok.
