Default How-to Rotate Compressor TD04 ?

I'm using a TD04 turbo off a WRX. The guy I bought the kit from was using it on a 92' civic and the outlet where the charge pipe connects to is facing the front of the car. So when everything is bolted up the compressor is facing the front of the car. Not a problem on 92' Civic's cause of the half size radiators but on my EF I"m worried it might not clear. The way the charge pipe it set-up it should clear but I may have to rotate the compressor so it's pointing up like most of your guys set-up's. I'd like to know just in case it doesn't clear. The turbo has what looks like a big hose clamp in the middle and the two bolts for the waste gate braket. I'm not worried about the waste gate braket cause I can easly make a adapter bracket but I just don't know how to rotate and thought I'd ask so I don't f*** it up. It's not like my old T3 that had a bunch of small 8MM bolts all around where you just loosen then up and turbo so how do I do it. If you have pic.'s you can show me it would help alot. I saw the pic. on the turbo project section of a TE04 being used butr the pic wasn't very much help to me. I juist don't want to have to go buy a half size rad. off a civic. Thanks.

there is a snap ring. its huge and a real bitch to take off.

dont take it off just compress it and hit the outlet with a hammer to crack it loose. also might wanna throw some wd40 on the snap ring.

So just loosen the snap ring ( don't take it out ) and I can rotate the compressor that way. Cool but I know it's gonna be a bitch if it's anything like the little snap rings. Thanks.

the snap ring cant be "loosened" it has to be compressed with the right plyiers.

im NOT talking about the metal bant with the bolt.

these turbos have a locating pin in them to stop rotation. You will have to grind it away to rotate the compressor housing.

Thanks for all your helps guys I appreciate it. Grinding and sh*t forget it. Here's how the charge pipe goes and the thing spools hella quick since the charge pipe going from the turbo to the intercooler is only about 2 1/2 long straight pipe ( if even that long ) and the pipe going from the intercooler to the T-Body is only about 2 1/2-3 Ft. long S shape bend. The pipes are nice and short. I'm using a DSM side mount intercooler that sites in my factory air box location ( very stealth ) so once on from the outside you can't tell it's turbo'd unless you look into the hood scoop aqnd see the intercooler ( I also like the intercooler where it is cause it doesn't attract theives attention the way a big FMIC would. But I'll just leave it where it is and deal with it. Like I said worse case I'll just buy a cheap stock DOHC VTec 92'-95 Rad. Basicly a B16 DelSol rad. Thanks again

i have the same turbo and had to rotate the whole thing. the center section as well as the compressor. just make sure you get large/heavy duty enought ring pliers. you will need to grind off the locator pin on both sides. the big gold ring will allow you to rotate the center section to allow the oil feed on the top and return on the bottom. that might have already been done since the last guy was using it on a civic. here are my pics:

hope it helps.

Sctty the center section is fine. It's just the compressor. Where are these pins I have to grind off located and what do they look like. I haven't really taken a good look at what your talking about. The kit and turbo is off a 92' Civic and the compressor outlet where the charge pipe connects to for the I/C is facing towards the front of the car and not up wards like alot of peoples kits on here. I bend of the charge pipe should clear but I just need a back up plan just in case. Do you think you could post those pic.'s here instead of the link. I use the computer where I work at to get online and they have a stupid restrictor on it that doesn't let me go onto any site's like the one you gave a link to for some reason ( guys at my work were using the computer to look at **** sites so they basicly restricted all site's except for a few I was suprised I'm allowed to get on this site the restrictor is stupid and rerally annoying ) thanks again dude those pic.'s would help alot.

when you pull the compressor housing off there will be a little pin that is part of the casting of the housing. once i pulled the section apart i just took a grinder wheel and ground it down flush. i didn't have too much trouble getting the ring out, but getting it back in was a bitch since i was cheap and got cheap ring pliers. i then moved up to a slightly better set, but i still was being too cheap. it took me about an hour of cussing to get it back together and an extra set of hands. go to napa and buy the larger set of pliers (i think they are somewhere around 40-50 bucks and will open plenty far once the ring is out to put back in). unfortuneately i have my pics hosted on we-todd-racing and i guess they don't like this site...i always get a thanks for stealing bandwidth logo instead of pictures. instead of linking to the site from my short cut, try typing www.siatlanta.com and go to the boost and juice section and it is the topic getting closer to boost. that might help with looking at the pics in terms of how i have my turbo clocked. i'll hopefully be finished working on it today and boosting tomorrow.

oh...btw...don't forget to thoroughly wipe out and blow out the metal dust from the grinding. probably not too good to blow that into the engine.
