how many people are running 8psi or so on stock blocks more or less

more or less as in metal 3 layer and arp headstuds. sohc zc in particular

I'm rebuilding a block and thinking about just rebuilding it stock, but measure/inspect everything and replace everything that needs to be. I've been running the sohc zc in my car now from 4-6, but I wan't take it up a little to 8-10. I'm really not addictied to boost, cause I barely get on it as is, DD, not race car.

I would say most members on this site have stock engines. You'll be fine.

but why go through a "rebuild" just to leave all the stock ---- in there. On a d-series its not worth it imho. You'll spend too much on gaskets, bearings, rings, a timing belt, etc and end up with just a stock motor that you will end up either blowing up or tearing apart again to add in forged ---- anyway. If it runs and isnt already torn apart or smoking, leave it alone.

I wise man once said, "10 pounds will turn you out". I believe it may have been Ghandi.

i totally agree. anything less why bother.

I pulled the stock jdm d15b that I was pushing 15psi on for a solid year with (on a basemap), and put that motor in my dd crx. the motor is still in perfect condition.

It's not the motor that's in the car now, its for credit for school. and actually my first rebuild. with eagle rods I'd be looking at close to $1000 with honda bearings and gaskets, about half that if I don't use them and don't bore it.... Anybody have any experience with stock pistons and beefer aftermarket forged rods ( just realalized stock rods and crank are actually forged) . though I might just go all out and just get eagles like you said, and just eat cup o noodles for the next month or so....

Re: how many people are running 8psi or so on stock blocks more or less

just looking at all the parts on the motor, general inspection, like bearing wear, micked the pistons. even though one rod was bent, not twisted and there was signs of water in the cylinder. also the fact I'm running like 6psi on the sohc zc in my car right now, I think stock block can handle boost pretty well..... decidisions

I talked to one person on another forum that was really happy with fjt's gaskets... said they looked cheap and the head gasket blew within a couple weeks, got a oem and haven't had problems since.

---- taking it all apart swapping the rods, boring, and then just put stock pistons back in it.. If gunna do all that put vatara pistons in it as well.. Were doing a turbo d16 crx at our shop with eagle rods and vatara pistons shooting for 300hp or bust..
