ok so i am broke and prob.ly don`t have enough $ to get my rear section done befor the next drag meet.
so i am thinking may be i can take out the gasket right after the downpipe and run it like that....
how loud could it get?...as loud as NA motors?

 

It will be to annoying for you to drive the car around like that. Besides the cops will pull you over every two blocks.

 

Donald, so you just have a stock cat/exhaust? and that's what you're worried about?
If you can you make it Friday to Julio's, you can make a test pipe ( i have a 3 bolt flange you can have) and use your stock exhaust, or get a $10-20 muffler and use that 2 bolt flange you have. That way at the track you will have the required muffler. It will be connected to your downpipe.

it just that i wanted to get rid of the 1.7 inches stock exhaust and muffler.

 

i ran open downpipe for a couple days before i got my flex pipe on, and it was pretty obscene. however, i was able to drive by cops very very gingerly and not get pulled over.

it was fun to scare the crap out of other drivers though. the car sounded like total *** out of boost, but once the turbo spooled it supposedly sounded pretty evil

 

How would an open down pipe compair (noise level) to say:

N/A ZC w/ 4-2-1 headers w/ 2.25" exhuast straigh pipe (down under gas tank and straigh out to a fat staight through ---- can.

that ---- was loud as hell and i would think that an open dp would be even quiter than that...

im going to prolly be running 2.5" all the way back and then be putting on some really good flowing muffler...

i want to hear my turbo spool up...

im running an open downpipe right now. ive been running it like that for like 2 weeks now. i dont think it is as loud as and open header. its not bad at all. besides u can hear the turbo spool louder.just rumbles when u decelerating(sp) in vtec . i have no plans of hooking it up anytime soon.i have heard cars with "coffee can" mufflers loader than mine.

 

Open downpipes kick ***. They are quieter than a N/A motor with open header IMO. Faster spool, more HP, more intimidation.

i love the sound of open down pipe you hear the turbo alot more too.....that high pitch noise is good........hmmm tasty

 

I'm running open downpipe right now, it's alot louder than with my exhaust (straight thru to magnaflow) but it's definitly not as loud as open header. I've driven right by police and not gotten pulled over.
