Hotrex signature manifold preview!(UPDATED)

Josh came to my shop at work tonight and we planned out his manifold for his Integra. He is going to match fit the pipes and weld it together during the week. Here are some preview pics.

Heres the man himself working the piece of ---- chop saw I have.

Here is some pieces ready to weld.

Heres what we came up with the fit with his radiator and his fan.I tacked the flange portion together for easy transport. Stay tuned for the full install pics from this coming Sunday!

can you not swap in a half radiator? then you could go ramhorn style.

I beleive the manifold will need to be welded up first before you think about where the external gate is going to go at.

Me personally, I'd go right on the exhaust housing of the turbo.

That looks like fun. I really need to geta chop saw and learn how to weld.

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

Looking good so far...

but I'd suggest that you use 3 elbows from each of the middle 2 ports. Start with one facing up, then out, then down into the top, so they shoot directly down into the turbo. This will not only avoid the drastically divergent angles you currently have as these two ports join the others, but will also make it a bit closer to being equal length.

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

We were going for quick and easy. Not to mention fitting in the car. You can't see in the picture but the flange is offest towards the drivers side to clear the radiator fan.

what happened to the equal length mani's??? i could have sworn a couple people already paid you for them, shouldn't you be knocking those out first ???

would this really work putting the wastegate on the downpipe i am really not sure if it would keep me in touch if it does

hotrex 02-01-2005 02:37 PM

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

its not on the downpipe, its off the exhaust housing..

did you not see the pics i put up? i thought it was pretty self explanitory... mounting the wg to the dp flange, not the dp itself. mount it over the wg opening on the exhaust housing and routing the wg exhaust directly into the dp. nice and tidy.

josh, is this your plan? i'm assuming so... or are you going to weld it to the exaust housing like in jeff's example with beau's setup?

It seems like a good idea since it hard sometimes to get a flange on the mani for the wg. Damn thick steel is hard to cut. I wonder how well it would work going from 20mm to 35mm.

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

i think i might try it. i'll let you know, although i have nothing to compare it against.

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

ive seen it done on a few different setups on the web. and a tig welder is the tool of choice when weldinging a external wastgate to the exhaust housing.

Wow thats a great idea, are there any downsides to that method? Ive never even heard of it before

Nice flanges aaron

Re:Hotrex signature manifold preview!

If I have any say in it. We are not ------- up his SC61 by welding a flange to it. Josh is coming up to my shop on Thursday night and we will finish it up and put the waste gate flange on the mani. Pics to follow....stay tuned.

if you're going to run it back in to the exhasut, you should do it a little further down and make sure it's at a very slight angle, as close to parallel as possible so you don't interrupt the flow of the exhaust
