Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Honda finally offers a factory turbocharged engine available in the states!
http://www.rossmachineracing.com/hon...i/motorbig.jpg http://www.rossmachineracing.com/hon...daskimotor.jpg Um, too bad it's in a freakin' jetski! The crazy thing is that it makes 165bhp for only a 1235cc engine! |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Damn you, I got all excited for a second. :-[
I wonder what sort of ECU it uses? ??? __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

More specs. See the intercooler under the intake manifold. Looks like a water to air intercooler.

Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
looks alot like the new d17 in the civic sedan/coupes.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
yup..hmmmm enine swap??? ;D
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
yeah i talked to a guy at this place by my house that sells jetskis... if you can find one, they have a d-block and any d-series transmission will bolt up... best part is you can actually put a d17 crank and rods and pistons in and with a little notching of the block you got a factory turbo 1.7 liter honda motor! good ---- huh!
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
That's sweet man.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
some1 with money to burn should try this out.. first time it would be done I bet.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
maybe they'll come out with a factory turbo car soon, they're about the only car company that doesn't have one.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
that exhaust manifold is sweet.
does the motor turn the "wrong" direction like a boat motor? it would not work so easily in a car if it does |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
damn it does look like a new 2001-02 civic motor, d17 with turbo!! then i get to the bottom of the pic and its the one for there new jetski :-\ damn you whiterice! someone should throw that in a new civic... :o
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
it looks like a pretty decent sized turbo too, i wonder which turbo it is and who manufactures them for Honda??
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
I dont think Honda is going to be releasing a turbocharged engine anytime soon. There all about ecconomy right now with the new hydrogen cars and what not...
I dont see why they can just design a kit for say an accod (just an example i know most of you have CRXs. make a different ECU for it tuned to perfection and just offer it as an option. I mean imagine the new accord V6 6 speed on 15 lbs of boost!!! it would be crazy |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Accord luv :P
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
i know alot of you dont see any snow, but where i live we get lots......so...... i think that honda should come up with a snowmobile that uses this motor. it would be crazy, just think.... a FMIC on a snowmobile
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
looks like a d17 but it's a dohc! look at the 2 cam seals on the head. specs prove it too.
hey jeff, looks like honda copied your zc race manifold and made it cast. i knew they were watching HMT. |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Don't think that turbo would do very good for a home kit cause look at the way the flange is. I guess you could just weld the flange on a different way but still it's a factory turbo'd D! Since it's still a D series block and dohc it could be the rebirth of the dohc zc!

Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
slright guys, here's the scoop. i just got off the phone with jim honda, he is the owner of honda motor corp., i talked him in to making a factory turbo b18c. you guys owe me big because it took a lot of persuading :P

Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
ummmm.. you mean all of the new ones. and it's not the "wrong" way, just not the same direction as most traditional engines
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
isn';t that the engine that comes in teh new hoda jet skis...
|

Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
i'd be more interested in the factory dry-sump than the turbo.. turbo's are easy enough to home-brew..
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Honda does make a factory turbo car. ever seen the toyota scion? honda made a car that looks like the scion and has a 1.3 liter turbo engine, I read about it in a magazine, I think it was Honda Tuning.

Actually Honda IS releasing a factory turbocharged engine. And it's for the 2004 ACCORD! http://www.honda.co.uk/news/20030901.html Downside... it's for the European market only. and it's a Turbo Diesel. But damn 52.3 MPG!! 340 NM torque and 140 PS, anyone have the conversion formula for those numbers? |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Nice torque but puny hp figures hahaha I hate Diesel cars.
I hate diesel period. that Diesel sound sucks That's 250.7708 lbs-ft. torque. actually ps is hp but that's how they say it in europe, but the ps rating is a bit of most of the time compared to hp not by much though. |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
step 1 buy a new civic
step 2 buy a jetski step 3 swap the heads step 4 swap the manifolds step 5 stand alone engine management |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
You forgot one step.
Swap the water/air intercooler and the turbo to ;D |

Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
hehehehe ;D nice edit,
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
is it closed deck or open?
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Honda also made a turbo motorcycle in the early 70s.....XF750 or something...it says turbo on the exhaust pipe only seen one in person. Also making a turbo diesel based on the D17 for the european market...yawn.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
they also made the CX500 and the CX650 in the early 80s, both were turbocharged. i wish i could find one.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
Yeah sorry it was the 80s....There are a few in CA, I see em in the cycle trader now and then for $2500+. They probably weren't built for performance just to get the power of a 750 out of a 500 with the gas mileage of a 500. But you could probably double the hp before they would blow and add a small spearco core, they were non intercooled and carbuerated.
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
do you know if they used a pull-through set-up or a pressurized carb set-up?
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
I'm an idiot, they were injected......19psi in the manifold fellas!

Look at the (what i guess) output shaft, the directional rotor. Assuming that the cutting edge of the blades spin forwards, wouldn't the motor turn clockwise? Just something I noticed... |
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
arn't all d17's like that ?
|
Re:Honda Factory Turbocharged Engine!
counter clockwise
