hf/std manifold + adapter plater = backwards turbo

Why does everyone mount there turbos backwards with the hf/std manifolds. Do you have to or is it just easier. Thanks for all responses.

What do you mean? Exhaust housing on the pass. side? I beleive they do if because there's more clearence for the downpipe to be routed by the oil pan. And there might be more room in the engine bay but I'm not tottaly sure, I havn't looke into turboing my hatch STD at all... yet ;)

there is no "backwards" really...just the most convenient way to mount it for some people, myself included

I will still be running a/c so will the intake side even clear the a/c compreser.

ummm....hold it in there and see. if youre using an hf, it will take some creativity with the adapter to get it to work from what ive heard

Re:hf/std manifold + adapter plater = backwards turbo

i did mine with the intake on driverside because it wasn't far enough away from the block mounted downpipe on driverside, but it's not that way for all turbos. if you mount it like mine you have to rotate it so the inlet clears the a/c and move the fan to the front of the condensor.

check the link in my sig for pics.

Re:hf/std manifold + adapter plater = backwards turbo

our "backwards" is actually the smartest way to mount a turbo because it points the downpipe where it's suppose to go and the compressor points towards the intercooler... Stupid greddy and their 4 extra feet of charge piping ::)

i tried mines bother ways, and the only way it woudl work was towards the driver side...
