Default HF Mani over a Short Runner

I'm Contiplating on making a new manifold.

Will I see much power gains on my 14b if I was to make a short runner like the BMC design.

I will be making it out of 1 5/8 ID Mild steel pipe from http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/index2.html because that was the cheapest price I found. I would like SS but I can weld MILD Steel at home and a little bit of rust on my manifolds never hurt me.

Is it worth my hasle?

its not even realy worth it. i meen the gains would basicly be next to nothing if any at all.

i concur, port out the hf mani and its as good if not better than a log/shorty style

Ya, that manifold is already well ported. I spent a number of hours on it.

I think I just might invest in a bigger turbo.

Its always nice to produce stuff yourself( I wouldn't look at it as a hassle)
i would but im on a tighter budget than the last one so i went with HF
i say make one

I'm also considering building my own manifold instead of running a STD manifold this year.
I plan on using 1.5" pipes and tees with BMCRace's premium flange.

Looking at my now-unported manifold it seems that a log manifold would flow much better
It seems to me that porting it would weaken it significantly, no?

Any ideas on this?

a ported HF manifold compared to a log i made, felt about the same. the HF promotes better flow characterstics than a log (obviously since each runner is seperate then collects in the middle). price vs power difference the HF is better, but i would sugest porting everything out etc.

Ya, I don't want a log manifold. Never liked the converging idea of them.

I was thinking of making a 4 to 1 design like an hf but with elbows and sitting the turbo a little lower.

We'll said, I dont think I'd ever switch over from a HF mani to a log. HF manis flow pretty well if ported out correctly (and a good chanfered adapter plate)

If you do decide to upgrade make sure the manifold you make has some type of Merge collector, there are lots of great manifolds out there that you can get the idea of.
