Default hey guys, new to the site, just finished my HMT and need some help

My winter beater recently got a fresh heart with a D16A6 swaped in for its D15 that had 400,000kms on it.

I used what remenants i had kickin around anothe turbo car i had built a while ago and decided to boost the D16A6 for the hell of it.

We finished up the car last night, and it fired up with no issues.

Took it for its inital test drive and noticed that as soon as the car hits 4000RPM it will start to hesitate, and if you allow to try and push past 4000rpm, you hear a very loud *BANG*.

The car currently is in a very rough state. Timing has not been played with and no fuel mods have been done as of yet, except for a JR adjustable FMU. I have 440cc injectors for the car, but am looking for a chip that will allow the ECM to control these(also looking for a chip that has a turbo map on it).

Anyone have any ideas as to what that bang may be and the potential reason the car wont push past 4000rpm?

I have suspecions that it is severe knock/detonation and i need to dial back the timing, but also curious if im missing something.

I also have on the way a MSD BTM that will get installed ASAP. Also looking into purchasing a SAFC.

quick run down of it setup:

88 civic 4dr LX
91 SI D16A6 motor
bored .5mm over(someone else wasted money doing this, not I)
.5mm over PM6 pistons
mild port/polish on the cylinder head
SVO turbo .63 compressor .48 turbine
turbonetics deltagate wastegate
3 one way check valves
JR adjustable FMU

waiting to be installed:
440cc injectors
MSD BTM
apexi (SAFC if i can find one for cheap)
PM6 chip with a turbo map.

thx for your help guys.

Jas

read up on turboedit if you want the most control but just using the afc with the btm would work fine as well. And is the car throwing off any codes? It sounds like timing to me.

the bang sounds to me like a bad mixture in your engine without tuning anything on the car its getting such improper fuel and air mixtures, causing what to me sounds like detonation. a easy way to check that is to put your car in a high gear just enough to where the turbo starts spooling and listen for a crackling noise

what kinda boost ya running ? That's a fairly large turbo for an A6 ( not too bad, but big )..

Just upgraded my WRX turbo to a TD04L-50trim with 15degree clip, and its a fair increase in hp and torque, while I still get full boost by 3000-3100 rpms.
