Help us identify this turbo please? Jeff? Beau?
Hey guys, we have a customer with a turbo, where the oil drain connection appears to be a very large female inverted flare style. The exhaust inlet flange is the retangular port, and the exhaust outlet is one of the five bolt type.
Here are some pictures.... http://www.tunertoys.com/images/cust...o/P1010064.JPG http://www.tunertoys.com/images/cust...o/P1010065.JPG http://www.tunertoys.com/images/cust...o/P1010066.JPG http://www.tunertoys.com/images/cust...o/P1010067.JPG http://www.tunertoys.com/images/cust...o/P1010068.JPG We are trying to figure out what the original application was for this turbo, so the customer can locate an OEM style fitting for the drain flange. We would be happy to hear any constructive input on you guys might have! Thanks for your help! Craig @ Tuner Toys |
Re:Help us identify this turbo please?
I've never seen a fitting like that. I have no idea what car it's from, but if you can't figure it out jb weld is your friend.

Re:Help us identify this turbo please?
it is just a T3 with a dumb fitting in it. the inverted flare fitting likely has an NPT fitting on the other side (into the turbo) I'm 99.99999% sure that a stealthmode T3 kit will work perfectly for that, just tell him to take that stupid fitting off.
it was prbably somebody who was useing a steel feed line from the back of a coke machine/refrigerator or something. |
Re:Help us identify this turbo please?
Does it really look like that huge inverted flare part is removeable? The standard T3 drain flange is over two inches long. It doesn't look like there a a flange surface of that length, anywhere on the center housing.

Re:Help us identify this turbo please?
what are the numbers/letters on the tags?

Re:Help us identify this turbo please?
We have asked the customer to forward that info to us, so we can get it to Garrett for deciphering.
I was just hoping that some of you guys had experience with this one, and could provide good ideas oh what he can do for a quality drain solution. Not that there is anything wrong with JB Weld, Kyle! Craig |

Re:Help us identify this turbo please? Jeff? Beau?
Looks like a Garrett T28, probably something off a Silvia (nissan) or something. Thats not a T3 inlet flange on that exhaust housing either.

Re:Help us identify this turbo please? Jeff? Beau?
Thanks Jeff and Everyone.
I sent the number on to our Garrett rep, who should be able to shed some light on the subject. If anyone recognizes the application for this turbo, give a holler! (or post) Craig |

Re:Help us identify this turbo please? Jeff? Beau?
my friend has one that looks simillar to that one on his SR20DET (nissan). The fitting on the sides looks like they are for water cooling in and out. 98ctr

Re:Help us identify this turbo please? Jeff? Beau?
Thats off an 89 pontiac turbo trans am I agree that the exhaust inlet is wider than the normal T3 like the Nissans have. |
