Default Help with turbo models?

OK. I'm an FI idiot. I know this and accept it.

You always hear T3 and T4 thrown around (sometimes by people who have no clue). When you look at a turbo housing, you usually see something like " TB0344" or something.

How do you go about decoding this into usable info? This would make it easier when going into a junkyard to get a turbo. All I know is I'm looking for one off of a Saab/Volvo/SVO/Turbocoupe, but I'd still like to know a little more.

I've found plenty of theory of operation, but nothing as simple as decoding.

Thanks,

The T3/T4 thing only aplies to Garrett turbos, as well as the AR ratings, you will hear people saying that a turbo has .42 AR compressor or .48 AR exhaust, they are talking about a Garrett turbo. The best one to get is off a Tbird, SVO or Mercure Xr4Ti, they all have the big .60 AR compressor. The Volvo and SAAB units use the smaller .42 AR units. They work well on D series motors but if you have a B series or something over 2.0 liters that reves high I woul get a .60 AR unit.
