help me out here fellas
OK i've been a fan pf HTM for a long time now, most of my time is spent online reading the forum and tech. Anyways let me begin, I am the proud owner of three CRX's
(pix coming sonn) a black ZC Si, a white Hf that was once B16 powered but I had to sell the engine to pay for art school, DAMN NATION!
and last a red HF (daily driver) all 91's. The white Hf just sits in my driveway in need of a tranny or clutch (scratching his head) I never really investigated it, as soon as something went wrong I used it as an excuse to throw my B16 in, of course the Hf motor went right back in. I never really looked at it after it was out to determine the problem, I was having to much fun with my B16 to care. Well enough of that, one of my buddies just got his rex boosted (Si with a Z6 VTEC head) he let me take it for a spin and I must admit that Im hooked! its pretty ------ fast. There was a time when I could burn him but now I can barely keep up, I GOT TO GO TURBO!
Ive recently acquaired an A6 block and a Y8 head, I was going to throw it in my daily driver but it seems that plans might changed. I decided that if I was going to go turbo I would used this engine because its not in a car making it esier to work with.
I will admit that Im kind of scared, I read alot about people blowing there motors left and right (shaniqua) after going turbo, WTF is going on? if not the engine than the freaking head gasket. I got to say that I dont want to end up like that after investing money into it. I aint rich either everything I do is on a budget. I guess my main fear is passing emissions, mine are almost up. I wont even ask if anyone has passed emissions on their getto turbo cause it seems doubtful but if your out there let me know how you did it :P bribing the technicians doesnt count. Anyways I guess what i need is some incouragement and solid testimonies about your expereinces after going turbo, mostly problems since I already know the benifits. Im fairly knowledgeable on Honda engines and I have access to good information (my people at HMT).
Ohh I should also mention that when I get my ---- straight I will be selling my white Hf to fund my project, money is best but dont be surprised if I trade for a turbo kit. Its got to be decent though, no half *** ----. Im in hot *** Phoenix Az if interested, It will be up in the classifieds section shortly along with pix and full details on the condition. Well thats it for now until then, peace.

Do not get a blockguard. I just found out that my block has warped.
I would recommend a wide band setup to tune it properly and not have to worry about leaning out. They are pricey, but it's like having a dyno in your car at all times.
Don't get carried away with the boost. Set a limit for yourself. I found myself running as much as 14 psi at times. This is not good when you have stock internals and a cheasy *** Autometer A/F gauge for tuning.
I have never had any problems directly related to boost. All of my problems were mainly operator caused.
Since you live in AZ I would suggest an upgraded radiator. Boost will heat your motor up very fast.
Have fun.
BTW I live in hot *** Lake Havasu, AZ. Howdy neighbor. :P

Wideband 02 sensor. It's what the guys at the dyno use to tune your car. Way more accurate than a standard 02 sensor. This would replace the shady Autometer A/F gauge.

Nah, it's an 02 sensor, but it's way more accurate than the standard 02. You would hook it up to a digital readout to give you an exact A/F ratio(12.4:1, 14.7:1, 13.6:1 and so on). Do a search on Yahoo or Ebay.

I hear you Doc, an upgrade raidiator would be a good idea, I know it can geat really hot in Az. ---- I dont even have A/C, I've never had a car with A/C for some reason. I dont know if its my driving or what but it always goes out on me like im cursed or something
and not just in Hondas either.
I was thinking of runing 7-10 Psi intercooled using a 2mm Greddy headgasket to reduse compression. I know you can retard your timing with an adjustable cam gear, would this be a good way of keeping detonation in check, or would I need an alternate method of doing so. For my turbo I was thinking of using a IHI RHB5 for its fast spooling characteristics and because its so easy to work with, the O2 housing is perfect for a custom down pipe with minor fabrication. Any tips welcomed.
setup blue print:
D16A6 block
D16Y8 VTEC head
SI tranny (not yet purchased)
Twin Trac LSD (thanks for the write up Jeff)
ACT organic clutch kit (6 pucks have harsh engagement)
D16Z6 intake manifold/throttle
this what I have so far.
BTW Doc, I was at lake Havasu over 4th of July weekend a while back, any chance I might have seen you out there. I was in a boat with some friends and a bunch of girls

The D16Z6 head flows betteer than the Y8 and the Y8 manifold flows better than the Z6, so IMO I would switch those. Also, are you talking about the B series tranny? If so, it won't bolt up to your D series motor.
Well toup95, the Z6 head has higher top end flow but the Y8 head has better mid range flow, which I favor because Im not out to race people and ----, so most likely I'll be with in mid range driving conditions. I think the combination I have now is good for me, you know, but thanks for you opinion.
Oh and about the tranny, of course Im not using the B series tranny, I know it wont bolt up to the D series block :P
I should have probably mention what kind of tranny I was using earlier, but I figured that everybody knew what I was talking about, guess not.
