Help for a DIY Waterspray system

hi,

my car is a civic 4thgen d16z2
turbo with 36/42 came off a VW GTD (there is a T3 tag on it, but the flange is kinda different)
450cc dsm
DIY ramhorn manifold + external WG (spa raging series 38mm with an adjustable spring)
downpipe size 55mm (yeah it sucks ass !)
mid pipe is 60mm
ford transit IC
50mm chargepipes (hot side)
70mm chargepipes (coldside, i know it gives more turbo lagg, but im a cheap ass and the pipes are from aluminum)
fake greddy blowoff

im going for a dyno run soon, and before i let some1 dynotune my car, i want to build a waterspray system.
but i need some help...
basic plan is to have it only work at WOT so...

use the WOT Throttle posisiton signal... what volts??
use a relais, wired to a 12v water pump?

its probalby done before, but i cant find any topic about this shizz.

Sounds like an interesting setup. Got any pics?

7 Attachment(s)
here me and my uncle busy on the manifold.

Attachment 24882

meanwhile i made the collectorflange. note the strange shape.. not really the common T3 shape right?

Attachment 24883

progress...

Attachment 24884

Fitting the IC (its mounted now but its not on the pic.)

Attachment 24885

Collector is a pain in the ass

Attachment 24886

i had to remove the radiator to have some space..
(note the External WG, on the downpipe.. i think it will cause a problem for the exaustgasses...)

Attachment 24887

another pic, buts is blurry..

good ---- dude. Why not do water INJECTION instead? Does spray actually do anything?

Very little.

This topic has also been covered a number of times. It's just a 12VDC water pump, a container that holds the water, some line, something to spray the water, and a switch. You should be able to get everything you need minus the pump at a place like home depot. Ebay for the pump probably.

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

You can make a ghetto water spray system using a windshield washer motor with hoses and even the sprayer on the hood or you can remove that and put a spray nozzle from a paint can. I tried this but not on my car. Sprays pretty nice.

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

If you just want it a wot mount a switch at the throttle that gets hit by the throttle at wot (make it adjustable). You may want to us a micro switch and a relay set up. Micro switch will turn on the relay, the relay will turn on the motor.

http://www.chinasasun.com/english/mi...e_switches.htm micro switches.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relay you can find relays at a junk yard ( fan relay, horn, defrost )

http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html explains how to wire a relay in.

get a water bottle and zipties. hookup a pulley system......im not kidding. do this and you will be my hero

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

thanks for the replies guys.

im not going to use waterinjection because its harder.. (have a manage system that controls the water spray?)

waterspray on the IC is simple.
ill use the stock water reservoir for the windshieldwasher and the stock waterpump in the reservoir. (i noticed that i had 2 pumps..)
and an adjustable nozzle thats used for manual spraying plants. (i dont know the english word for it.. im dutch:P)
http://www.postproduktie.nl/img/deta...ntenspuit1.jpg

lets say, at WOT the TPS is 4,5 volts?
is that enough to trigger the relay? wich wil activate the waterpump..
i think il need an resistor?

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

use a hobbs pressure sensor and I believe the word you were looking for was fellatiate.

Just so you know, most racetracks dont take too kindly of you spraying your water all over their racing surface.

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

im not going to race a track.
just have fun when a sucky ass German car stops next to me..

anyway..

i suppose i have to use a diode witch wil stop the signal till lets say 4,4 volts. (4,5 volts is the WOT TPsignal)
then at WOT the diode wont stop the electricsignal, so the relay can be activated right?

and what do you guys think of my setup ? will the external WG cause boost creep?

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

Are you having problems with the ic heat soaking at idle? Otherwise to have it set up to only spray at WOT is damn near pointless. You arent going to see any gains unless your heatsoaking at idle, or the ic is already heat-soaked when you get into boost.

thats the whole point.

some say it wont work. some say it will.

i think depending on the temp outside the system will work better. lets say on a hot summer day.
when its finished im going for a dyno run, and then we will see the results.

if the ---- helps. it helps..
if it will help a little, it still helps.

i did one of these a few years back. it was a pump from a windshield washer bottle and a bottle from the dollar store, then ran some tube that i got from home depot and a T fitting. had them coming out through the intercooler and used 45* sprinkler nozzles. had it wired to a momentary push button switch. i'll try and find the post.

found it

but none of the pictures seem to work anymore

Is that manifold mild steel?? or stainless?? Looks good :) ;)

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

ebay preasure switch hooked to a injector near the TB
some 12v pump that can do 30 or so psi hooked up to it aswell
= water/ethonal injection

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

nice write up, tobad the pics dont work, i see some say it wont work, what are your experience?

@Zeniceguycrx :

so water injection uses a injector without some management for the injector? no pulse signal? constant open?, so ur actually only using the injecotor for its spraying pattern?

what will be the water consumption? like fill it up every 100 km?

Zeniceguycrx 08-18-2007 07:39 AM

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

u dont need the injection at 5 pounds or that, get a preasure switch off ebay for say 15 or 12 psi or so. It will only turn on when you hit high boost where it can be needed. u dont need it with low psi. plus you know it will turn on at a set psi so u can tune for it. you can also spray water, methonal, what ever u want.

but maybe put a resistor inline with the injector to lower the power to it

This is just an idea Iv been working on for a ass cheap water injection system.
Mine will be set up with methonal at 17psi so when ever te boost goes above 17 it will raise my octain.

you will just have to see how mutch u go through and keep a jug in the back of te car

and ys the injector is just to get a mist of spray so its not a hydro locker

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

Use a 5volt relay, you can get them at digikey.com. They usually work as low as 3-4 volts, meaning near WOT you will activate the spray. You could also hook it to the stock MAP sensor, which should hit 3v after 1-2psi - that might be a better idea. :6

there will always be some people that say things wont work unless it costs alot of money or unless it has a name brand on it. from what i seen it worked great. i ended up hooking it to the vtec solinoid so when vtec hit it would power the sprayer. i datalogged a run where the sprayer was turned off and then another where it was on and it lowered the AIT 15* with the ice water. so in my mind it worked great and did exactly what i wanted it to do. not sure what that would have been on the dyno but i was happy with the results.

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

@ Zeniceguycrx

wouldnt it be a better idea to take all 4 pulses of each fuel injector, and wire them to 1 water injector? so you still have somekind of open/closing on the water inejctor.

@ TCC

thats indeed nice info, but i already knew that site.

@ jeffsciv23

i drove yesterday with my car, and the sick amount of heat that is produced by the manifold is sick!
my hood gets really hot, also the front strutbar get so hot.. (can barely touchit without burning my hand)

the inlet of the IC is hot, the outlet is colder, so ill put it on the hotside. when the chargepies come in to the engine bay, they get hot again...

ifly87 08-21-2007 08:04 PM

Re: Help for a DIY Waterspray system

My hood was hot too, get some aluminum tape on the underside of you're hood, it will help ALOT! so you dont burn the hell out of you're paint.
