you think it is based on z6 experience? I woulda thought otherwise. ---- the good ole BBKA map is sitting at 19* in the 11psi column and he pushes 12-14psi on that car regularly for over two years now.

I have that TE map I tossed together sitting at 18 degrees in the 11psi column, kinda meant to be sitting at more like 16deg by that column, but still...

I've always applied the advice I've gotten from Dave on basing out timing, and always had excellent luck with it, to be honest I don't play with turboedit much, so the whole difference in IAT and ECT correction could be a player, but I wouldn't imagine that the correction difference of obd0 vs. obd1 would be extremely too different.

BBKA was/is running an exhaust manifold with runner length and some sort of collector. Reversion tarnishes your knock limit. He has a limited amount of reversion because of his manifold thus allowing him to run more timing, make more power, and have a more efficient setup. Log manifolds have tons of reversion which turns your knock limit to ----. This is why its easier to suggest running 16* as a base at around 10psi and just let the person tuning the car increase the ignition timing and see where things go. Det cans cost all of $20-30 to make. They are a must for a novice tuner.

understandable, i meant to be hitting more like 16* where I had 18* but I wasn't really trying to built WOT a basemap, I was more trying to demonstrate smoothing that staggered ---- out. Most of my Crome basemaps sit at about 16 degrees in the 9.3 column and 15 in the 11.2 column.

by det can i assume this is some sort of makeshift knock monitoring goodie, i've never really seen any mention or thread regarding them here, can you post up some links?

Very easy to make. One step better is buying a flat response knock sensor off ebay and hooking it up to the mic port on your laptop. Then you can monitor it via some sort of sound analyzer and with your ears using a headset.

I like the Mic port idea, I am gonna start looking into that.

Torque the headstuds down to 75-80 Ft. lbs. You should not have head lift issues....

The thing is, D-series don't have head lifting issues. They have the bores shift when detonated on. Headstud torque will not help you there.
