Default Header wrap good or bad?

So Ive heard that header wrap will make a tubular header (or manifold) but I havent heard about on cast. There is a guy at a different board that just wrapped his h22 header with wrap, and said it cut down the underhood temps a good deal, and also alot of engine noise.

When I get my greddy manifold off my friend, I would like to try out some wrap, but will it crack cast?? In other words, should I use it or not?

well,
heat + turbo=bad

header wrap = cooler temps = better for turbo

(lots of people use it) -I will use it here shortly.

I'm not a huge fan of header wrap. It doesn't last very long and it cracks manifolds and turbine housings.
Another added bonus is that they work like a wick in a lamp, say your oil dipstick (which is totally on the wrong side of the engine in both Hondas and DSMs) pops off and squirts oil on the manifold, your car catches fire.

How the ---- do you get that equation?
Header wrap = higher temps on the turbo side, lower in the engine bay.
Your turbo won't care whether the air in the engine bay is 50°F or 100°F.

I wrapped my homemade cast y7 t3 mani and never had any problems. Plus header wrap looks hardcore and badass too.

lol, this is completely wrong. heat + turbine = good. The idea behind header wrap is to keep the heat in the manifold and going into the turbo. Heat helps spin the turbine. I'd reccomend heat wrap, can't hurt anything. I've never experienced a cracked manifold cause of it

i read a bunch of articles on it and the majority agreed that it will crack pretty much any mild steel header eventually. especially with a poor wrap job which results in 'hot' and 'cold' spots which = expansion = cracking

most said to only wrap SS just to be safe

for a manifold, it will keep the under hood temps down, but do a good job wrapping, and with like the downpipe and exhaust, if you wrap the downpipe it will keep the gases flowing more, beucase once the exhuast gases cool down, they also slow down ... hotter = faster moving exhaust = more flow y0

keep it real
