Wow nobody's actualy researched this before?

Here is what I found when I started wondering a couple years ago..

http://www.centuryperformance.com/heatwraps.asp

pretty much what it says is that metal is not ment to stay that hot for that long and it breaks it down. You see it done on cars like Nascar because they throw away a set of headers after a race as well as rebuild the engine top to bottom.

Read up, you might not agree but he definatly did his research on this.

pffh ---- was free so I wasn't complaining Boosted fine the entire time it was on my car too till I sold it for 700 on egay. IHI rhb5 with a t3 flange welded over the existing flange worked wonders. Man I miss that manifold What good times we had together.

Ive messed around with header crap eerr wrap and you have to soak it in water then wrap it on the header TIGHT then run the engine threw a heat cycle so the wrap form a sort of "cast" on the header. 6 months it started coming off and even living in san diego it rusted the plain steel header. Ive heard of peoples headers rusting threw. Id say spend the cash and ceramic coat it Looks nice for a long time and has better capabilities of hold in heat. 0.02 ,dave
