header flange thickness, is 3/8 enough

would that be thick enough for a turbo header flange?

Personally I don't think it's think enouph...I had a 1/2 flange on my last manifold and it still warped a tiny bit. 1/2 inch all the way..3/8 will warp alot in my opinion, it'll never seal right

when you say warped.. did it warp in the welding process?

did you have it bolted to a junker head?

oh yeah what welding setup were u using? I've warped the ---- out of things using an ARC welder attached to a generator that is putting out well over 300 amps before.

i would recommedn using 1/2 inch too. just incase if u ever have to machine the flange to get it true flat. i mad my manifold with 1/2 inch header flange. i got my tig weld. e-mail if u want to see the pic. phanmy11@netscape.net

I didn't weld it..it was a log manifold that I bought off Ebay. It was straight when I first put it on...after a while it warped a little from the hot cold hot cold and it would no longer seal correctly. I kept retorqueing the bolts but eventually it wouldn't quite seal anymore. Prbly crappy stock that the flange was cut from..but anyway, just my personal experience...

damn, makes sense on the warping, but normally it shouldn't warp like that from normal driving conditions.. did you torque that fucker down good? Kyle was also talking about stainless steel.. that should hold up better then mild steel.

My flanges are 3/8" stainless - so far, so good!
Also, the exhaust gaskets will crush a millimeter or so - if it warps a little when welding, it will still seal okay.

guys the easy way to take care of those issues is to cut a slot between the ports on the flange. so in other words, each hole gets it's own "flange" get it?
