H22a turbo

Has anyone had expierence with this type of engine when boosted and Im also looking for a good setup? Any help would be appreciated.I was just curious because people say that it isnt worth it to turbo a H22a Prelude.

Dump 3 grand into the motor getting it sleeved and professionally built, then you might be able to talk about turboing that block.

OR

I have a better idea, read thru a few hundred posts from such websites like HMT and H-T (or any honda based website) and they will tell you exactly the process you need to follow to boost an h22!

Spell check/Grammar check is another wonderful thing, look into that while you're doing your research, Moron.

I dont konw if this is appropriate but...

OWNED!!!!

Ok I'll be nice now, make sure you do a search and see what others have done to the H22 block when they are turboing it. I'm not too knowledgable about H22 but cant help you much except knowing that you gotta do more crap to it before you can start boosting it.

---- I was just curious why do people have to be a dick Ive just heard people ragging on it. I know that you have to do other things to it but i was just wondering about the turbo set but I really dont care enough to fight about it so someone just delete this thread if necessary.

Hey, I'm not one to bash on a new person asking a question (and most of the people here are the same way). But come on man, put a little bit of effort into your post before you ask something like that.

If you would have phrased it like "Hello, I'm new to the community and I've been considering doing an h22 turbo project. Does anyone have any past experiences they would like to share with me on this kind of setup? I have spent some time searching google for some answers and found that this site has some very resourceful people with good amounts of experience that that might be able to help me. This is what I have found out so far for it -LISTING SPECIFIC FACTS YOU FOUND- Thank you for your time"

You would probably get a much better response and not get slammed. Look at the thread about the northstar engines, that dude was on the ball and got treated with proper respect.

My response is probably going to be the nicest you will receive, just wait till the rest of the members get a hold of this.. LOL

The only thing ive found out about turboing a H22a is you dont want to have stock internals when running even 8 pounds of boost, get a thicker head gasket, a J&S saveguard(something everyone should have with a boosted engine),I also heard things about the stock ring lands.

Because of the FRM sleeves that are in the H22's you cannot run forged aluminum pistons, thats why most people don't do an H22 becuase they have to be sleeved. The stock ringlands are very weak but if you know what your doing its not that big of a deal.

How much money do you think that it would run me with turbo and everything.

Start looking for parts and add it up yourself. The price can range from $400 to $15,000

I am also on the process of finding info for turboing H series.

As far as H22 concern, I've known 3 people. One of which he ran 298whp stock daily for almost a year without problem. That is with proper tunning. One blew his motor, and one running 280whp for 1.5 years. So, your millages may vary according to proper setup and tunning.

However, in order to get the maximum benefit from boosting and to be on the safe side, a lot of work must be done to the engine.

H series with stock internals are generally not good for FI, hence, it has FRM sleeves and high compression. However, with proper rebuild, it'll be the beast. A friend I know running 487whp on a turboed H22 EK and he spent 10,000 into the car, that is without most of the labor (he did all installation and most of rebuild himselves) beside machining: Resleeves, port, polish, bored, etc. He's running 9 daily. But it's not streetable anymore.

So on the safeside, stock H22a (earlier closed deck version, not the A4 - 97+) are safe for low boost, ~ 275whp max.

For more power, you speaking of at least 3000 into the block.

I did a lot of research, and reading (arg how much I hate it) in order to find what I need to do. Still, I'm asking a lot of people to share their experiences with problems so that I can avoid when building the block. I started a thread in the Hybrid forum of this site hoping to see some H series FI people.

my friend has a h22 in his 95 civic and just got it running needs a lil fine tunning. besides that it pulls hard, running 6psi

Re:H22a turbo

I'll be tuning one for more power in the next week or so. He's had the stock pistons shaved to 8.2ish : 1 and it's in a 1.6EL. Currently only on 4 PSI. We'll see how it goes.
