Re:ghettodyne is such a piece of ----!!!
So far.. I have only seen GhettoDyne working for the stock PM6. Basically because of where the fuel maps are located in memory.
I've been in discussion with xtensive (GhettoDyne author) and the guy with EcuControl (I forget his name at the moment) about interoperatbility between the two programs and why other ECUs are not supported.. Seems it comes down to where in memory the fuel and ignition maps are located.
They both plan to add support for both the fuel and ignition maps to EcuControl, and datalogging for GhettoDyne.. Should be make for some exciting setups.

Re:ghettodyne is such a piece of ----!!!
Hi all, just found this site/forum, and low and behold right at the top is a thread about what a piece of ---- GhettoDyne is. Neato. Since I wrote this program, I suppose I should respond.
1) It's a piece of ----, don't use it. Wow, that was easy. next...
2) It does NOT currently support boost (as far as you know). Putting values in the positive manifold pressure area will do nothing. Just like the readme says.
3) Boost is being beta tested, but there are bugs. I don't have a lot of free time, or even a CRX to test this on, so it takes more time to work things out. If you want to give me a CRX, and a turbo kit it would sure speed things along
4) DataLogging is supported in the next release via Nick's (Synoptic) ECUControl program. You still need ECUControl, but the GhettoDyne tune sets up the serial port for them to play together.
5) Launch control, RPM Idle, re-curved injectors, different GM MAP sensors are also supported in the next release.
6) This program is still BETA, and doesn't always work perfectly. Ah the joys of free software done in someone's spare time. If you really don't want to deal with it, then there are companies out there that will gladly take your money and supply you with a quality product and support.
7) To use GhettoDyne effectively you need an (E)EPROM burner, and you have to solder in a 28 pin socket. This requires basic soldering/de-soldering skills, and the cost of a burner. If that is too technical for you then see #6.
The idea of in-car updates, that do not require an (E)EPROM burner, is being looked into, but will then require a special ECU (like some other company who's name has slipped my mind right now...). To accomplish this means you HAVE to change the hardware configuration. This requires the soldering/de-soldering skills mentioned in #7. The other option is to offer modified ECU's setup to handle this for the price of an ECU plus time and materials. This then leads into the quandry of "Isn't this suppose to be free?" Well, yes, but if you can't solder then no... Still on the fence with this one, and the whole time thing again.
9) I don't know why some are having trouble saving the ignition tables...? I haven't been able to re-create this problem yet. I am curious as to what values are being used because it may have to do with a mathmatical computation above or below a certain threshold.
10) Thank George for the beta Boost routine, and Nick (Synoptic) for the lovely datalogger.
Cheers,
Mike

Re:ghettodyne is such a piece of ----!!!
Hey xtensive I have a few question for you that I couldn't get on all those sites.
I see there are 86-87 PG7 en Pj1 bin files from , but aren't ECU vacumed advanced? So why do they have them? Can you put a those bin's in a modded PM6 or PM7 to work on a pre-OBD engine? And can I mod a EDM PG7 ecu to work with the Ghettodyne? Or should I be better of looking for a PM7 and mod that one so I can fine tune my pre-OBD ZC1 ??

xtensive:
(not going to quote the whole thing)
But, I'm stoked about your program. It gives nerds like me a chance to break my car in style, without spending an arm and a leg to do it!
I had a question about the EEPROM burner..
This is the one that Hondata uses, would it work for GhettoDyne/EcuControl usage as well?
http://xtronics.com/memory/EPROM.htm
And (I know I sound stupid..) but what "adapter" would I order to make this work?
I've ordered my serial port adapter (For EcuControl, and much anticipated GhettyDyne use) and the 28 PIN ZIF socket referred to in FAQ on the CRX Forum site..
Do you have an online resource from which I could order a few EEPROMs? (AT29C256)

Re:ghettodyne is such a piece of ----!!!
Semnos, here is a good discussion on what you are trying to accomplish (I think)...
http://pgmfi.crx-forum.org/phorum/re...12&i=660&t=505
turboEF9, the one Hondata uses will work fine. The chip I personally use is the Atmel 29C256 which, by some strange coincidence, is the same chip that Hondata uses...
Wiring in the rs232 adapter is a piece of cake. I got most of my 29C256 chips off of EBAY pretty cheap. You can also look at digikey or maybe directly from ATMEL? I know some of the better quality Radioshack stores sell them also.

jeff can you change this topic to like "ghettodyne."
thanks man, and sorry.

Re:Ghettodyne
Well being a megasquirt owner / builder. I totally support the cheap or hack methods.. Seems a bit undocumented and actually still molten yet tho. You guys should really visit the megasquirt yahoo group and see what paople are doing with it and other diy efi stuff. What you want is a reburnable type chip.. this is why i went with it. it can be programmed on the fly while datalogging.. the software even suggests new ve entries based on the output of realtime datalogging.. i have version 2 of the unit this encorperates a flyback mod and dual ve table support. really trick stuff.
