getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

MORE PICS A FEW POSTS DOWN!!

i had some time today so i started takin out the y7 mani and puttin in the z6

I also put in my new oil restrictor to hopefully solve my oil leak on the exhaust side of the turbo.

here are some pics:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_156_full.jpg

^oil restrictor

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_155_full.jpg

^the z6 mani first in without fuel rail, tb, and hoses

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_157_full.jpg

^ z6 mani almost done, most hoses connected, tb on with new gasket.

i still need to buy an fpr for the z6 fuel rail, and i have to cut my charge pipes to fit the z6 now and not the y7. i tested it today, i might have to do a little welding as well but we'll see.

Re: getting a little bit closer

so i am still workin on swappin out my y7 mani for the z6.

my question is could i drill a hole through the bolt thingy (for lack of a better term) in the z6 fuel rail?

pics will explain better:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_158_full.jpg

^Y7 fuel rail

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_159_full.jpg

^Z6 fuel rail.

because if i just bolt on the stock bolt gas need to be able to flow into the side of the "bolt" but on the z6 the hole is on the top of the bolt. or would it be easier to go to the junkyard and get the right bolt and hose that goes to the fuel filter?

thanx

Re: getting a little bit closer

use the cap from a z6 fuel rail to get that all fitted up correctly.

ps - dont forget to open that oil restrictor, looks like you got it closed.

96_civ 09-17-2005 05:14 PM

Re: getting a little bit closer

yea i do have it closed, i was opening it today with the unsatisfying feeling of gettin my hands all cut the hell up too. hahaha. do you know about how much i should open it? because i want to restrict the oil quite a bit at first just to see if my oil will still leak out the exhaust housing.

thanx

Re: getting a little bit closer

i dunno ive always used non adjustable restrictors, id say open it 50% or so for now

that z6 cap on the fuel rail may also require you to use a z6 fuel line by the way, not completely sure what you'll have to do since you're mixing and matching here.

Re: getting a little bit closer

^ yea i already figured i would. ill just make a trip to the junkyard on monday and see what i can find. the only prob the junkyard i go to mostly has OBD0's so i might have a hard time findin what i need, but im sure i can find somethin to ghetto-rig up to my setup.

just hopefully i wont have to use a different fuel filter or fuel pump. maybe ill check the part numbers at honda or somethin.

thanx for the help

MORE PICS

Cutting charge pipes to fit the z6 mani:

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_162_full.jpg

^ here is the charge pipe out with the dremel (took forever to cut with that little dremel but it was the best thing i had to uses)

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_164_full.jpg

^ in the act of cutting it

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_165_full.jpg

^ a little bit too long (better to cut it too long than too short) and its also high so i had to get the 90 degree bend to the left and shorten that one.

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_163_full.jpg

^ end result!

so the only thing left i need to do (i hope the only thing that is) is buy a z6 fuel line, and wait untill i get my z6 fpr, and install that real quick, and i still have to extend most of the sensors on the intake mani and throttle body. but its raining today so i wont be able to do much of anything today.

looking good. Gotta love using the dremel for cutting the charge pipes. ;)

woudln't be surprise, maybe you should have tried the old fashion way with a hack saw. Anyway keep us posted with pics as you progress.

This picture looked confusing as hell to me at first haha. gj on the intake mani swap. looks a lot better man.

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

i didnt want to work with the hack saw. i was feelin mighty lazy, id rather spend more time and just sit there, then go at it with a hack saw. plus a hack saw would only cut it straight i needed it to hace a slight curve on it.

and yeah, that pic does kinda through you off, its not really somethin you see everyday when lookin into an engine bay so you have to think of what your lookin at, then you kinda realize what your lookin at.

Looking good so far, I remember the days of the dremel till I bought a chop saw. One of the best investments I've ever made. O0

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

Someone from so cal trade me a turbo for my 52/48, so i can get this car workin already. i extened all the sensors today to reach on the z6 mani, but oil was all over the outside of the center section of my turbo after i finally got my car to start.

but that could also be because right after i would start my car the rpms would climb untill i turn it off. it kinda struggles to start, then just climbs then i turn it off.

tomorrow i will check all the sensors and make sure i did them right

if i cant figure it out, i dunno what else to try to fix that damn idle

check for vaccumm leaks...

96_civ 09-24-2005 09:53 PM

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

would a vac leak really cause it to rev that high tho? cuz it would have gone all the way up to redline if i didnt turn it off.

matt

(i will check tho.)

i3lazedx 09-24-2005 11:34 PM

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

yes it will rev till redline if theres a big vaccum leak..put ur hand over the throtle body and if the car stays running u got a leak.. if so listen feel what hose or gasket its leaking at..

96_civ 09-26-2005 11:42 AM

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

the only thing is i dont wanna start the car walk to the engine bay and check for vac leaks why the rpms are just climbing. well i guess i could have someone else start the car. never mind.

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

did you put new gaskets on the throttlebody and intake manifold? If you did put new gaskets on but didn't get all the old material off, that can create a leak and cause the creeping RPM.

96_civ 09-30-2005 08:17 PM

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

yea i replaced all gaskets, and its not really a creeping rpm, its more like a floor the gas pedal to the ground while in neutral increase in rpm.

i unplugged all the sensors and it worked much better, still kinda crap tho. so im gonna put the iacv on and let it run with just that one plugged in then if it climbs then i know its the iacv.

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

hahah yea i just took that off today actually. and i ran the charcoal can to it, cuz i had no where else to run it.

well for the update:

i converted my iacv back to the 3-wire by puttin the y7 throttle body on the z6 mani, and that solved the "high rev" problem, but it is back to a surging type from 1k-1500, but that is better than right when i start the car, it revs to 7K. i think it might even be the map sensor or the tps sensor. im gonna try to start it with each unplugged one at a time and see for sure.

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

update again:

so i topped it off with some coolant, but then as i was pouring the coolant in, i was hearing it leak to the ground. it was leakin somewhere from under my intake mani, like more towards the passenger side kinda right above the axle (you know that bracket that kinda gets in the way when you are takin off the oil pain? water is running down that. i was tryin to see where it was comin from and had no luck. the coolant hoses on the mani are not leakin at all and i never touched and hoses to the block. anyone know what it might be?

thanx

how did you guys fix it. i checked my spark plugs and they are pretty dark and i know that runnin rich can mess up your idle. do you guys just think i need to get it tuned to fix the jumpin idle between 1k and 2k.

I have the same problem now lol, im checking my fitv i think it is this wekend to tighten it up.

i dont have an fitv on mine since i just re-used my y7 throttle body.

i am thinkin that i just need to get it tuned since i am running pretty rich.

I didn't want to read the whole thing, but make sure you put your stock oil pressure sender into the back of the block fitting. Open the restrictor this much. lol

ok cool, ill put it there.

also i just realized that the nut in the middle of the intake mani on the bottom (the one thats a bitch to get to, is not on.)

i dunno if i forgot to put it on or just lost it and didnt realize i didnt put it on, so im guessin this could be a reason why my idle is a little messed up, and possibly the leaking coolant as well, however i dont think it is the spot where coolant is leakin because it seems like the leak is a little more towards the passenger side of the car.

im gonna get under there today and check for some cracked hoses and stuff. then try to find another bolt to fit on that mani.

matt

96_civ 10-04-2005 08:30 PM

Re: getting a little bit closer MORE PICS...56K?...ahahahaha

^ ok i checked and there are no cracked hoses, but i saw that the leak is coming from what looks like the top of the oil pan on the shallow side on the back. right in front of the cv boot.

im not sure if i somehow cracked the block ( i dont see how i could have seeing as the peak boost on my profec B is at 4 psi ) and i dont see how my headgasket could have blown and water gettin into the oil, but even if water is gettin into the oil, it shouldnt be leakin.

sorry for the n00b question but do d-series have core plugs? (aka freeze plugs) and are they on the back of the block?)

or does anyone else know what it may be?

matt
