Default Garrett sizing for 4efte

I would like to size a turbo for a 4efte (1331 cc toyota engine, twin cam, one cam gear, slave driven exhaust cam) rev limit 7900 rpm. Im no pro but most of the info i see is for larger engines. my limited knowledge leads me to either 46 trim t3/4e .48 or 50 trim same settings, ive read that the 50 trim has the wider map and is more efficient. want to size the turbo for 330 whp with some headroom yet good street manners. ive also read about t3/4b s trim? what is that? assistance please, thanks.

Maybe a GTX2860R? Trying to get street manners on top of running that much boost will be a bit of a challenge. You're going to need a really big turbo, and don't have much to spool it with.

glanza /starlet turbo 4efte are a very popular engine to modify here in ireland,

if your going garret a gtx28 would definitely suit your needs for an easy 300
you can get 300+ with a hybrid td04 (wepr kit for example)

their will be a lot of stress on the 4efte though in my opinion id go for a 5efte (5efe with 4efte head and forged pistons conrods etc)

their are many 300hp plus builds on ukso but bear in mind its a 1.3 so lag will be an issue (td04 on boost @4k rpm)

Hi Ching, Ive had a number of turbo combinations on my 4EFE and now 5EFE.

Here goes.... first up I used a Garrett Ball bearing GT2560 (.64 Exhaust) on a N/A 4EFE but felt it was a bit too big and laggy..... not really any good power till 4K

Next I had a (.48 R32 GTR exhaust housing machined to fit the BB core.... this was better but not as good as id hoped.

Next on the 4E was a turbo from Kinugawa. a 6cm (exhaust) TF035 with TD04 front cover and compressor wheel. This was pretty good really but I wanted a bit more top end. I felt that the tiny exhaust wheel was restricting top end.

I then tried a 99 forester 4cm exhaust housing on the back of this Kinugawa turbo..... very good spool up and mid range..... but I wanted more.

Enter 08 model TD04 from a WRX.... I had the smaller 4 cm TF035 exhaust housing machined to suit the larger TD04 rear wheel.

I have ran this on my 4E and now on my stock comp 5E and i feel its the best compromise of spool response and top end ive come up with .

Very happy with it.

I hope this helps some what.
