Re: finally started my turbo shit..

The welds do look choppy but they were butt welded so the ---- isnt going to leak boost or anything. Ill keep you guys posted on what's new. Tommarow i am gonna install my ic.

Are you using a flux core welder or a MIG? Those welds are real rough - if you need advice let me know

89shithatch 12-07-2006 12:15 AM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

may be rough but i assure you no air will be getting through. its a stick welder. Ill have some updated pics tommarow of more charge piping and my ic.

Stickwelding thin wall - hrmph.

Anyway, I promise you if you were to cap an end and put some pressure in the tube it'd leak. You've got pinholes everywhere. I am not criticizing you, just telling you that it'd be better to grind it downa nd run a proper MIG bead now rather than later. I've welded a few times :)

http://blowneuroz.com/mygallery/Welding/tig1.jpg

I had to use a gasless MIG (Flux core) wire feeder once and I layed a smoother pile of booger welds than what ya have picture, and that damned thing leaked so bad - I know it seems like you've "saturated it with metal" but its really just cracked and pin holed. Good luck with it though.

89shithatch 12-07-2006 11:27 AM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

there was more than one layer of weld put on. i dont think it will leak. I have looked pretty close at the welds and the inside of the piping. its fine

nah...I'm just messing around. I have no problem with anything.....

Do a test with air....cap one side close and put some air using a compressor or something. Some holes are small enough you won't see them, but they are there. Maybe even try water, see if it leaks out a little. It's better to check now than having to get it all out after it is done....

and where's the pics....post them up.

Yeah another trick is to cap one end of the pipe and pressurize it and spray it with soap water over the welds. Pin holes aren't something you can really see. It's a pain in the ass.

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

water test would be good.

I swore that this one weld i did was sealed, and the water test proved me wrong. grind everything smooth, then go over it again.

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

ill have the pics up later tonight. I Have to type a 3 page paper for world issues first. haha. i am going to cap one end. fill it up with water, and see if there are any holes in the intercooler piping. hopefully i have lucked out.

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

looking good man but definetaly do a leak test before you get it all setup, i used a stick welder on a couple of my pipes and ended up having massive leaks and using a coupler over the welds as a bandaid

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

throw a nice coat of jb weld over all those welds for extra security! :S

sweet.... get this bitch done!

got a turbo yet?

89shithatch 12-10-2006 09:59 PM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

no, all i need is a t3 turbo and a stealthmode oil line kit after i get the turbo. i am still finishing up my z6 swap. for some weird ass reason my car has a buncy idle that it did not have when it was in my other hatch. And the idle goes away when i unplug the tps sensor. hmm

lennoxlewis 12-11-2006 11:04 AM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

hi, what do you mean by "stealthmode oil line kit" got any pics of one of these ??? building my oil lines now, interested in stealth stuff.. need to hide it the max from cops

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

check ur iacv for bouncy idle, every car that has had a bouncy idle that wasnt a vacuum leak ended up being that. might be dead try cleaning it with carb cleaner first or since its a swap see if its plugged in right.

Stealthmode is a dude on here that sells oil line kits so you don't have to piece one together. Check the "sponsors" section here, or actually more appropriately the "sponsers" section. He has a banner there.
"Stealthmode" doesn't refer to the stealthiness of the system though, but i would say that if a cop opens your hood, an oil line won't be the first indication of a turboed car.

*Updates*

I scratched the weld idea. I have a source where i can get free couplers/clamps. So i will be using them. I also have purchased my turbo. Its a t3 42/48. Ill have some pics up of the turbo as soon as i get it. I also bought a dsm bov with flange. Heres some pics of the bov and coupler/clamps. Ill have some pics of some actuall work being done tommarow. Ive been busy.

Well now I need you to get me ten of those bends, or make it 4 bends and 6 straights.... :-* ;)

It's looking good.
Did you fix the idle?

89shithatch 12-20-2006 11:59 AM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

still working on the idel issue. i am pretty sure its the broken tps causing it and the reason why its bogging is either that or i may be a tooth off for timing. ima work on my ---- tonght since i got off. ill let you nigs know whats up tonight

koreanwilcox 12-20-2006 01:02 PM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

Those welds look pretty sweet. lol

Another way to pressure test them is to buy a PVC cap that fits inside a coupler, then drill a hole in it and install a valve stem. Then just cap one end of the pipe, and pressurize it and stick it under the water, that way you can tell if there are any leaks.

I just did this to my pipes which I thought were perfect and found about 10 tiny ass pinholes that were impossible to find without doing the pressure test.

I made my boost leak tester for a total of $2.

89shithatch 12-20-2006 01:12 PM

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

and my couplers have totalled 0$. And i have piece of mind that my ic piping wont leak.

Oh yea. i think my spuddering problems is the result of a bunk dizzzy. now my car will only start on occasion. ------- h-t dizzy i thought was good. anyways less talk and more pics.

You're going to put clamps on the couplers, right? What turbo is, brand new?

Oh and don't sniff coke out of your engine bay. That's just dirty.

Re: finally started my turbo shit..

The way your idle stops bouncing sounds when you take the tps off sounds like you have the tps and map sensor switched-- thatd make it run shitty too. Try it if you haven't already-- they plug right into one another, but if you look real close the right one will snap on properly and the other one just kind of slides on and sits there.

I worked at autozone for a while and a bunch of puerto rican guys pulled up one day in a z6 swapped ef hatch that was revving up and down like crazy and running like ----. The tps and map sensors were switched, fixed that and the idle stabilized a little, but it was running on 3 cylinders. Plugs were fouled from running so rich-- new plugs and all 4 firing now, but shitty idle is back. Turned out that his map sensor was bad (dunno why that would make your idle bounce, but when I switched mine with his, it ran like a dream). Just a thought or two
