I want pics!! Just finsihed by d15b7 also, runnin t3/t4 garret .48.60 stage 3 stock motor. At 5 psi's and pulls like a bitch, but i won't be happy till i'm at least 8-10 psi. I need new freakin tires and lsd now, God forbid it RAINS, i loose traction in 3rd-4th when i boost in rain ;D i'll post some of mine when the underhood is cleaned.. |

PICS NOW DAMN IT >:(

Re: finished project!!sohc d15
up for pics, 10 psi on an HX40? Aren't those turbos like, big?
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
that manifold looks sweet with the stock cast head flange. So how retarded is the spool time?
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
when did it hit full power? damn thats big!!
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
I hit full boost by 4000rpm and it rips like a mf...Iwas so glad i decided to try with the turbo because everyone i askeddiscourged me from using it saying it wouldn't spool its 2 BIG.Well I said i would die trying but i suck c d Ded ;D
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
Did the Holset and Garret housing go together just like that? Nice do on the kit. But now that you provided pics, How bout some details on the turbo itselt.
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
that's one big ass turbo, congrats!
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
for the compressor surge, try cutting off a coil from the bov spring, cut another coil til it stops compressor surging. you're bov is to hard to open.
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
I've been under the impression that a compressor housing with a higher a/r will ------ out the map, keeping you off the surgeline. I don't know if holset makes one for your application. If they do, I don't think it will clear your manifold or block.
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
Did you balance the turbo when you swapped on the compressor housing ?
If not, and its fine. Im buying me a holset housing and wheel lol. |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
thats bad ass. get some timeslips. ---- i hope you dont blow the motor too soon. get some video of you raping that turbo
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
thanks for the rave everybody i want to clear up something about the holset hx40.
Its a hx40 and i removed the big exhaust housin and did some machining to a garrett .48 housin to let it fit. my setup jdm d15vtec log manifold holset hx40/w.48 turbine ported turbonetics wastegate(10psi) 21/2 exhaust act 4puck clutch and stock p/plate greddyblue box for now evo intercooler |

Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
Yea I figured out that the turbo air flow is too much for the motor, but do I have any option other than changing the turbo it feels so ------- GOOD WHEN IT COMES ON,no wheel spin it just pulls like hell and the transition is so smooth.
Would a second bov help,or just give me so options.or use a hx35 snail(I think that 1 is the same but smaller. |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
You can go bigger on the exhaust hsg to slow down shaft speed and it will help with the surge, but it will also make boost later in the revs.
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
Spray a 50 shot to get it spooled, and run 15 psi. That should take care of the surge :6
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
the nos will cool the charge temps too.

Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
You DON'T understand how excited I am to see this FINALLY!!! Ever since I learned all this stuff I wanted to see someone put a Holset on a D-series. 4000rpm??? I hit full (10.5psi) at 3700rpm on my .42/.48. So should we all learn a lesson and get bigger compressors and smaller exhaust housings? Ported the .48 meaning that the wheel wouldn't fit so you had to make the hole bigger? Doesn't break tires? Full boost 2nd I do, so you should in 3rd too.
WE NEED VIDEOS!!!! :y JP |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
what is involved in fitting the Garrett .48 T3 turbine housing on the holset?
|
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
congrats on the install. now when you say compressor surge are you talking about it surging under boost or are you talking about it surging after you let off the throttle? if your just talking about it surging after letting off the throttle(which is what I'm thinking your talking about after you mentioned getting a bigger bov?) if this is what your talking about you will need 2 bov's or 1 very large one. holsets flow a huge amount of volume. that turbo is capable of 75lb min of air. the hx35(next size down) flows 53lb/min but has a smaller turbine wheel as well so you would need to machine another housing as well.you could also use the older style hy35w it has the same compressor as the hx35w but has a slightly smaller turbine wheel and comes with a 9cm housing that you could most likely run and have the same spool characterisitcs as the one you have now. I have a hx35w and its an awesome turbo. I also have a he351cw that i'll be running on the drift car once its done. it flows 64lb/min but has a smaller turbine housing than the hx(9cm vs 12cm) or you could look at it as (.65a/r vs .84 a/r) i'm also very curious as to how much work it took you to get the hx to fit into a garrett housing. did you just bore the opening on a mill and it dropped righ in? or did you have to open the side where the chra sits in the turbine housing as well? do you have pictures of just machined housing? i've very curious about this. I'd love to slap my hx into a .63 housing. if you don't wan't to put pics here and wouldn't mind sending them you can send them to provingthemwrong@yahoo.com.

UPDATE!!!NIGGAZ
Hey peeps I solved the surging problem, actually it was just the BOV it wasn't wrkin properly all i did was take it apart cleanup grease it and then reassemble.WRKZ like a charm, now it time to move the stock resonator i think that will create a little back pressure(I have 2 1/2 in exhaust w/stock resonator.

Lowered with Eibachs with 16 Rotas wrapped in Hankook HRII's (steelies w/ winter treads right now) and currently going to HomeMadeMount the front and rear mounts with window weld. I've done it before though. Sooooo......? :-\ JP |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
i've broken at the top of 2nd with a semi-similar setup.. i blame it on the chitty tires i had tho. who knows
anyways, congrats on the install. i saved the first picture because it looks fuggin beautiful having such a massive turbo sitting next to the D rock on man and go boost crazy :S |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
10 psi on LS, in 1800 lb HF, and no traction problems except @ shift from 1-2. 2-3 required slight feathering upon shift, but hooked + went. 3-4th chirped the tires with gas pedal mashed flat during the shift. 4-5th only barked the tires if I revved it up and dumped it, but never when shifting.
If lowered, you NEED camber kits, and a proper alignment with STOCK camber. If you have 500-1000 miles on your tires before you get aligned, if you drive like a man and not a woman anyway, they are already ruined and traction is compromised. Suspension only gets critical if your front end lifts. Good spring rates, and suspension bushings for the older cars (pretty much any car on HMT is "old"), minimuze lift. |

Going to new tires and correcting my chamber made a WORLD of difference even over correcting it before new tires. |

Add boost, and tire life went from 12K miles to 2K miles. All that straightline boosting wore the hell out of the tires, and in short order the car went from feeling great to feeling like poopy until you had her locked in third. But, anyway, who gives a ----? I'm with Jimclure. I want to see video of the HX40'd SOHC! |
Re: finally finished project(holset40)pics inside
nice, lets see a video
