Odd Ball, you are still my hero ;-)

for those that dont know, odd ball here was the original fe3t ute owner. a bunch of life setbacks have slowed it down. without looking at his and drooling, i would never have done what i did. i must have checked that cardomain every day for a couple of years :-)

many thanks for all the motivation and inspiration!! most appreciated. hows progress on yours?

I was thinking this would be some crazy I6 build with a big turbo and ----. But...just a mazda. I do think its cool they can make 400 wtq before 3000rpm, yet find it funny the same motor barely hits 400 whp. The mx6 boards I've parused did offer some good regurgitated info for older turbos and such.

It does show lots of weird HMT type stuff, but done to the next level. Obviously lots of time involved to make even borderline ideas (rivets, lol) work good. I find that pretty cool.

As for the 'insane' driving, I don't find that crazy at all. You haven't lived till you've gotten a full-sized '77 Oldsmobile SIDEWAYS on 1" of compacted snow on the freeway doing 87mph. That and lifting the car off the ground twice over 130mph on a 35mph country road that has more huge hills/dips in it than a tity bar while being chased by a cop. Even with my ----, I just shake my head and shrug 'Why?'

you calling the holset small?

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=52186.0

that "just a mazda" too?

i coulda sworn cylinder count didnt count for much on hmt.

that aint my engine. infact, my engine currently hasnt made 400nm at any rpm, let alone ftlb. the engine could with a smaller turbo and high boost make 400ftlb at 3k, but that would limit your top end somewhat. as for barely 400whp, theres a guy in SA that has one making 900hp. his goal is drag racing... mines circuit racing and cop evading. without spending mega bucks on internals, the most this motor can take is probably 500hp. after that, a different set of rods, pistons, headgasket, cams will be needed to go any further. i may build such an engine just to show that i can, and that a heavy ute can pull a 10 or 11 and still be capable of hauling manure or an RB30DET and box or whatever...

the phrase "out of left field" comes to mind.

as stated elsewhere, i'm embarrassed by the riveted plumbing, didnt have tig, didnt have time to do it in steel, and didnt have cash or time to get some made up nice for it. thats on the list of things to fix. i promise. and, thanks, i think.

my version of driving hard is going optimally fast, and thus putting enormous load on the tyres, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain engine, box, and diff included. i'm not suicidal. least, not at the moment. my driving despite what many people think is pretty safe most of the time. just not in their eyes. i dont think i'm crazy/insane, just relative to the norm, i am.

thanks :-) those are my favourites too, but, there isnt much else to get too excited about really. i should take the time to link a pic of the inside of that header. i hand filed the merger till it was near perfect. i could blow into one runner, and feel it coming out of the merger onto my hand with what felt like the same energy that it went in with. ie, it felt like my hand was next to my mouth, not a foot and some away :-)

Blush and what-not! I'm getting very close to being done. The weather has SUCKED this summer so my motivation has dropped to negative, hence the stall in progress. It's really all just wiring at this point. That and some fitment for the battery and fuel cell in the new bed before getting it painted.

Mind you, I've had it up and running 2x before. First time I popped the motor, 2nd time I had wiring gremins only a complete excorcision of ALL wiring could fix. Complete custom-made wiring harnesses don't come quickly! Especially when you go overboard like I have!

For the most part, here is what the engine bay will look like:

What's killing me is that I mis-placed the power feed plug for the ProFec and can't get that powered up w/o it. Anyone got a broken ProFec B and wanna sell me the 2-wire plug for it?
