Fire ring? I don't think so. Would it happen to be a small metal ring about the same size as the WG enty passage from the manifold? Looking thru my stuff I see it there. What does that do?

that should be the one. look at this pic, it is the ring below the two gasket


it seals the WG valve to the manifold so it doesn't leak and CREAT BOOST
Without it the exhaust pressure leak pass the valve cause the turbo not spinning fast enough to build pressure.

Yep that looks just like my wastegate and I got the ring sitting in the box just chilling wondering why I didnt use it

How about a mental high-five for payment. All my funds are sitting in the car not building boost

hmm, I dont have that ring in mine at all and i have the same wastegate and i have never had a problem with it not making boost? It actually makes more boost then it is suppose too lol.
