External Wastegate on STD Manifold?
Ok, I've got an old standard, 89 to be exact. I did the mpfi swap and all that stuff, and have long since sold my std manifold ($86 on ebay!! ha ha) and I recently was given a Turbonetics 35mm external wastegate, block-off plate (t3) and wg flange from a friend that I do a lot of free work for. I decided I need to turbo the car, since I don't want this stuff going to waste, and it would be rude to sell. My question is if it's ok to mount the wastegate where the 02 bung is by either welding a flange there, or by some other means. I want to do this cheap... I can get the turbo and intercooler, bov and injectors cheap... and for now I'll only run like 5 psi, let me know. If I can go without a custom manifold or at least an expensive one, I'll be happy...

I have seen a manifold where the o2 sensor hole had an external wastegate flange. Can't find the pic though.
Personally, I would go with typert's way to use the external WG. I've seen that way used on DSMs also.
