Default Dumb Question: Pinging

i did a search but couldn't find this question.

does pinging occur when you lay off the gas or when your accerlerating?

i'm curious becuase i havent heard the 'marbles in a tin can' but when i am laying off the gas with the car in gear it seams to pop/rattle the exhaust a bit. i'm thinking it's just the section of piping that i havent upgraded yet, but i'm not sure.

any help would be appreciated

detonation is cause by heat so your car usually only pings under acceleration

There was a question about pinging like a week ago, I gave a huge explanation about it. SEARCH!!!!!!!!

But yes it is caused by the heat and the feul igniting before the spark plugs spark, this is why it pings when you lay on the gas. Lower grade fuel will always ingnite sooner then higher grade this is why you have to use higher grade fuel with turbo apps!

If I remember correctly you are running TE. Have you had a chance to tune it yet?
