Default Dual core radiators better than Crx rad?

So for you who don't know, my car overheats after 15-20min. of driving, so I took out the thermo to see if it would cool it down, but didn't work. It actually heated up alot faster. My next step is to get a better raditor, I've got a stock all metal rad in there now.

Do the dual core half radiators from the Del sol vtec cool alot better than the full size crx radiators? Or should I just suck it up and get aftermarket.

Also, when I went to the track, I drove it and ran it without a bumper and it never overheated.

Thanks

sounds like an airflow issue. try getting a bigger fan

go to discount auto and get 2 of those medium electric fans they are expensive but work very well, i had same overheating problem and i just had the stock one on there, and it didnt help much..but the new fans when they kick on u can see the temps go down, get those..

I used the stock crx radiator with one "discount autoparts $70 pusher fan" and the stock puller fan.

My fans hardly ever come on and when they do, they're only on for a VERY short time.

Anyway, I ran with just one $70 pusher fan for about a month and never had any problems with over heating ( despite the fact that EVERY bit of air that went into the radiator had to pass though the IC first.

I just got a duel core half radiator and I expect no problems outta it either. ( except mounting it !!! )

Unless your autocrossing/road racing I think its just stupid to buy a $200+++++++ radiator. If your drag racing and have a $200+++++ radiator, your dumb ( I love you guys, but it is ). If you "hot lap" your turbo (anything) more than maybe 3 times at the drags your DUMB/Uninformed/Rich.

How many 400whp hondas have we seen running the B-series engine, big turbo, big IC and that little *** 92+ radiator ? A LOT !!

Bottom line is... If your car is over heating, its 100% not the radiator ( unless its not fuctioning properly via leaks or cloggs).

But does a fan make that much difference when your driving 40mph? I wouldn't think it would make that much difference, the car is fine at idle, and if I don't drive it hard it takes forever to overheat.

Only thing I can think of that I havn't tried is the water pump. Is there anyway to check the water pump? I read in some manual that if you squeeze the upper radiator hose (while car is fully warmed up), and then let go you should feel a surge of water. I tried it and I feel no surge, can anyone check and see if there car does this or not. If I rev it up at idle I can see the water rise via the radiator cap opening. Wouldn't this mean my water pump is working?
Thanks for the input guys, I really need this ---- fixed so I can order my wideband and get this bastard tuned.

The fans can't match the amount of a 35mph role. Water pumps leak when they go bad ( funny I've never heard of a bad water pump on a civic motor, not that it couldn't happen ).

If its only when you "beat on it", its the head gasket IMO ( take it for what its worth ).
Fans come on at idle
no leaks in the cooling system
and replaced thermostate and STILL over heats is almost always head gasket.

Its the HG sure sure if your car is turbo'd.

I just replaced the headgasket before turbo, used oem honda gasket and copper spray. Got new headbolts and torqued them to 70 ft/lbs. ?
I don't have any coolant loss, and no oil/water mixture.

YOur tightened too much on the head bolts... You "yeilded" them.

They are like a spring. As long as you don't pull them too far they will streth and contract forever, but once you pull the spring too far, it'll never contract back to it original lenth...

You can run 70LBs. on ARP studs, but stock bolts can't go over the 5?.lbs that there supposed to... I'm sure there are some exseptions, but you don't appear to be one of them.

If you just replaced the HG, did you have the head checked for warpage before re/installing it ?

If its a 88-91 non-vtec head, I'd just buy another head vs paying to get it decked, if it does turn out to be the head.

no it's a dohc zc. I was contemplating getting the head surfaced but when I pulled it the headgasket looked fine, it didn't look blown at all, but I replaced it anyways. Do you really think that I torqued the headbolts down so much that they are screwed?

I also had another idea, i've only got two bolts holding the downpipe on (looking for high grade bolts to fit) and there is exhaust gas coming from the other two holes. Think that because this exhaust is blowing into the engine bay that it's causing the overheating?
