Drew Munns > the rest of you

Were throwing together a little setup.

Some background on his car:

89' crx hf
ls/vtec - 11.5:1 eagle h beam rods, cp pistons, eagle crank, edlebrock intake mani/tb, etc...

well it is a fun little ride. but about two weeks ago at the track it shat the tranny out, and we've been thinking of bigger of better things. after a lot of planning and a lot of spending here is what we bought this weekend:

KRB log manifold
560cc evo8 injectors
255 pump
small 16g
2.5" mandrel bends for the IC piping
6x25x3 johnny racecare IC
shitload of dsm crap like bov, o2, downpipe, oil lines, jpipe, etc...

we have a fresh LS block to trade all the parts into (the old one has a crack by the oil pressure sender) and then were shopping right now for some new 9:1 pistons

parts should start coming in this week, stay tuned we'll be sure to take TONS of pictures of the build. The car will be re-tuned on chrome by Rich (it is already chipped)

Hoping for 260-270 on 92 pump and then around 350 on some 110

This car is going to be disgustinly fast. It already tears, i can't imagine how big of traps it is going to get :o

im not hating
for my drivetrain/powertrain i cut times just fine
im not broke

wow so you peiced together an hmt turbo setup....good for you. its not even close to being better than some other setups on here.

im NOT saying its a bad setup, im sure its gonna be fun, pretty dang fast and put some decent power out but IT IS just a home made turbo setup. no need to get all cocky about it

Bigger and better?

Lets see: log manifold, barely enough injector to kiss 350 whp, a tiny joke-ass turbo, and a pint sized IC.

You don't have any idea what you are talking about, do you?

Yup, you definitely don't know what you're talking about. For the power figures you mentioned, nothing wrong with the 11.5:1 CR.

BTW, knock limit on pump gas for that engine is going to be around 450 whp for that setup - you like dropping $5/gal for racegas because you don't know anything about Honduhs?

It should rip some ETs and traps, it's an 1838 lb car. You need about 170 whp to break 12's - whoopty. At 200 whp turbocharged the biggest problem with a FWD ultra-economy shitbox is traction - you have none. You need to redo the factory radius rod mountings, weld bracing to the frame, reinforce the transmission mount so it doesn't tear away from the frame, jack the rear suspension so that the car is a deathtrap going around corners at the posted speed limit, and do something about the OEM parachute rear bumper - preferrably trim it a couple inches and construct a diffuser.

And, just so you know, GVR4 #366/2000 runs more boost than you ever will.

Exactly. What the hell were you thinking when you rebuilt that motor?

Re: Drew Munns > the rest of you

560cc injectors are fine for 350whp, dave lee just made 355whp on 550cc injectors, and he was still runing perfect... i dont think they will be that bad, also i think jay made 321whp on a ls/vtec with dsm 450s witha holset turbo. so joe i dont know what your talking about... it isnt the best kit no, but if ur gona build the motor, do the block filling think ot make the sleves stronger, get a bigger turbo and ----. im gona be running a t4 wit a t3 inlet, 82ar exhaust and 70 ar comp, on my ls/vtec, it had full spool at 5k on dustins ls/vtec. also u should run bigger than a dsm dp and ----. way the hell to small. if u wana make good hp, i doubt u can get 350whp off a small 16g also without pushing it to its max, a sc61 at 16psi made 355whp on a gsr motor.... stock block
